I created a 3D printed test tube rack and wanted to share it with the community. I designed it to hold my test kit hardware to make it easier to collect the samples, test the water, carry the test tubes and cuvettes to the sink, hang it on the sink and keep everything safe, wash the hardware...
This is the refresh of my original 3D Printed Test Kit Organizer Tray thread. The first post showcased now-old designs and one had to dig through the thread to find the new stuff, so a new thread was made to clean things up a bit as the old cannot be edited (Old thread will be deleted/closed by...
So I just realize now that I’m down to a couple and needed to reorder I’ve been using the wrong solution with my Phosphorous ULT tester. I’ve been using the regent for the Phosphate ULR. Any ideas how far off my readings would be by making this stupid mistake?
I am not sure if this is a stupid question or not but ive have noticed my tank has crazy phosphate spikes after every change. maybe stirring the sand up too much or something? The new water always tests 0 phosphate (i am using hanna) but after the water change it can go up to 0.8-1 which...
Diluted with 5 mL RO/DI so it's giving me 148.8 mg/L!
Not diluted but it's in NO3-N which converts to 99.6 mg/L nitrate! I did a ~95% water change on 10/30 so this is pretty surprising. And my 2nd largest fish is in fish jail for being aggressive while my 3rd largest is in the FICU (fish...
Hi Guys,
I understand that hobby grade test kits are used more for reference and stability. I also understand that number chasing isn't always the best to do with our reef tanks. But I would like to share a story (photos included) and get your input.
For years my hanna alk checker has been...
How/why would my nitrate swing so much throughout the day? And how to correct it?
100 gallon tank, 4 months old, transfer from 2 year old 40 gallon, mostly softy and LPS, few SPS.
I attached pictures of the readings. But at times, I have tested NO3 in the course of a day and it can swing from...
Hey guys! I was pretty stoked to get this build up and running. My name is Rick and have been in the hobby for approx 5 years. This will be the second tank I’ve built from scratch and I’m sure will have it’s own set of challenges. Below is the equipment I purchased for this build.
Glass:
Custom...
I have measured few times NO3 with de New Hanna HI782 and I'm seeing that the values are much higher than the Salifert and Nyos checkers.
Hanna HI782 --> 15.9
Salifert --> 9-10
NYOS --> 10.
Is somebody experimenting this behavior?
I finally pulled the trigger and bought myself a Hanna test kit (Salinity, PH, Nitrate, Phosphate, Calcium, Alk). I must say, overall, I am pleased with how accurate and easy these little guys are to use. However...(BIG HOWEVER)...the nitrate test had me having flashbacks to high school biology...
The long awaited High Range Nitrate Checker from Hanna Instruments is here and available for pre-order. With a measurable range of 0- 75.0 ppm it has never been easier to get an accurate digital read out for the Nitrate levels in your aquarium. If you have any questions about this new checker or...
I know I ALWAYS have a little ‘test anxiety’ when performing my water tests every week (alk every other day). I always hope everything turns out well and it usually does. Problem is, when it doesn’t (or I have missed a few weeks of testing), it can sometimes bring on a little panic as the...
I was trying to find out what part of the world the Marine aquarium/Marine fishkeeping hobby is most popular but I couldn't really find anything definitive.
My guess would be the USA, or Australia but it's only a guess. I was just wondering what countries are most developed into the hobby, I...
For the last several weeks, my Hanna checker has shown my tank to have roughly 500ppm calcium. I was alarmed by this because I don't dose calcium and have no idea where the extra calcium could come from. I decided to test my water mix (Instant Ocean at 1.024 specific gravity) with an ICP and...
Okay so Hanna's Digital Salinity Meter requires calibration right? Could Hanna produce a Checker that did not require the purchase of calibration solutions?
For example if a Salt Mix Pack says "Mix 1g of salt to 1 liter of water for 35ppt" Bearing in mind Hanna Calibration solution is 35ppt, you...
What is everyone here using to test the TDS of their RO/DI? Any tips or experiences concerning the reliability of cheap TDS pens?
Would you trust a cheap HM Digital TDS-3 Handheld TDS Meter? Plenty of positive reviews, but a reviewer pointed out:
The Hanna Pure Water Tester looks like a better...

I have a New Years resolution to keep my tank chemistry as stable as possible to allow my corals to thrive. They are doing fine now with good growth and color and want to keep it that way. However, depending on the test kit I use I'm getting different results so not sure exactly what the 'now'...
I have been using a 10ml syringe to accurately fill my cuvette for awhile with no problem. I recently bought new cuvettes from saltwateraquarium.com they came and they weren't the same as the old ones and fill past the 10ml line. I thought maybe I got some bad cuvettes so I ordered more from...
I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of Hanna Checker for phosphate.
I've opened a poll to see which one you guys use.
Could someone correct me if my understanding of these three checkers is wrong? And maybe suggest which one I should get?
The HI774 sounds like the best choice for someone who...
