Had this GSP for months and was doing ok... Took a closer look and there seems to be white little tentacles/branches growing out of it. I can pull off the tentacles but the base layer of white stuff stays...help!

Can I just rip a piece of gsp on a rock in my tank? Will there be any toxins or what not coming out of the coral after ripping a good chunk off?
