Okay everyone so I recently moved and of course replaced my sand and everything was good! But after a month (last week) I noticed some stringy algae!
I had noticed some before but as of last week I really noticed it.
Unfortunately I had to leave for a week and had a suspicion it was Dino’s...
Hello, I’m battling with Dino’s and I’m going to dose flourish phosphate and nitrogen to increase muy nutrients.
I have use Seachem Dosage Calculator and here it’s what’s the recommended dosage for my tank.
I have the following questions:
1.Did I put the correct measurements?
2. Do you dose...
Hi all,
I've had my reef tank up for a little over a year and a half. I have learned a lot in that time, specifically that keeping a reef is much more intense than I originally thought coming from the freshwater side of the hobby. Before I decided to jump in to reef keeping, I thought all the...
What are the opinions on the best way to manually remove Dinos? Would anyone recommend against brushing them off rocks and corals with a toothbrush? I'm worried about whether they would spread doing this? I was hoping someone invented something that incorporates a brush and a suction...
To address my dinoflagellate issue in my SPS/LPS dominated mixed reef I'm going to try a blackout for 3-4 days per everyone's advice. However, I can't seem to find answers to the following questions regarding "how to do a blackout" in case anyone can help:
Do I need to blackout my...
Hi everyone,
First and foremost, here are my tank specs:
Fluval Evo 13.5
AI Prime 16HD running BRS's AB+ schedule at 40%, mounted 9 inches above the water surface, and 20 inches above the sand. It is run at 40% intensity for 6 hours a day with a two hour ramp up and down.
10 lbs of live rock...
My coral quarantine thing is currently going through Dino’s. I did a black out and I’ve been adding beneficial bacteria every day. Today I vacuumed out as much as I could off of the egg crate and will do so again in another day or two. If I scrub the coral skeletons on my torches would it be...
2nd dose of Vibrant used on Monday 3/16/20. Is this normal to see this covering my sand bed after the 2nd dose?
I’ve ran both of these tests posted here to check if it’s Cyano or Dinos...
I suspect these are Coolia but I want to be sure.
Advice on these guys? They are bad right now just some spots on the sand. I want to get ahead of them though. I’ve been battling low nutrients so I’ve started po4 and nitrate dosing. Also stuck my green killing machine in the tank in an...
I've had my 20 gallon tank (LS/DR/RODI) for around 2 weeks and I've recently started getting brown growth (with stringly bubbles) on the sand and eventually the rocks. When it just appeared, I suspected dinos so I started overfeeding a bit and removed my chemipure blue. My nitrates and...
Hello, I'm new to the site. New to the saltwater hobby as well. Tank is about 2 months old. Waterbox 70g (45g top and 25g sump). I have 8 fish (2 mochavinci clowns, 3 cardinals, a flameback angel, royal gramma, and a lawnmower blenny). All seems to be going well. They all like each other...
Well I’m having a little issue. Seems it has gotten out of hand pretty quick. Can you tell what this is from the pics?
I don’t see any air bubbles at all, anywhere. So hoping not Dino’s. Was thinking Cyano but chemiclean isn’t doing anything to it.
Good day everyone!
I started a new nano tank about 3 months ago and have been battling this problem algae that showed up about a month ago! And i cannot get rid of it!
It is a 28 gal red sea reefer nano, I am running a protein skimmer and Chaeto reactor. Light cycle is 10 hours per day, 2 of...
Alright Guys & Girls, like the title says I have encountered a new roadblock in the hobby.
This thread will show you guys every step I take to battle this annoying pest and hopefully after I win this war you guys could look back to this thread to follow my steps and not make all the mistakes I...
hi everybody,
i’ve been battling dino’s for months now. here’s the story. i bought a tank (40B with 20gal sump; custom tank/stand/sump) that was running for a bout a year and taken down because the owner lost interest, but he put the live rock in a couple 5 gallon buckets of salt water to...
Trying to gain some insight into conditions that might point to a trend. I personally have come to think lack of bio diversity and too low of phos and nitrate are the primary conditions that cause dino outbreaks to bloom, but since no one knows for sure, thought I would give this a try.
Thanks...
Couldn't get a response last week, so gonna ask again... maybe I'll get lucky and find someone who knows, lol.
Any advice on how to "clean" a coral from a dino-infested tank before moving to a dino-free tank? You think a peroxide dip would be enough?
Im going to break down and disinfect my coral QT that has been overtaken with dinos. I need to move my corals to my DT.
Besides a good dip in some CoralRx to catch any bugs, are there any other precautions I should take to ensure the dinos dont transfer to my DT? Peroxide solution dip possibly?
The Bad News: Microscope finally arrived and confirmed my Coral QT junk is Dinos! But, I am having a hard time determining exactly what type of Dinos I have! Please see attached photo...
This Coral QT has been a royal pain in the hind-end since starting it. I am really starting to wonder if...
I have a dinos outbreak about few weeks ago. I first notice some airbubble on the back glass, did not pay much attention to that. This is my plan. Any opinion would help :)
Doing:
- Raising my No3 and PO4
- Adding a filter sock, and clean it daily
- Manually remove as much as possible
Planning...
This thread is a spin-off from the @mcarroll very successful Dino thread
The purpose is to discuss methods for removal and fighting against a particular strain of dinoflagellate - Large Cell Amphidinium. It seems to make up about a third of the cases of dinos.
The reason this strain gets its...
Dinoflagellates or some other algae type? (Pics attached)
Tank Info:
30 gallon softie reef
5 months old
RO water
Salinity 1.025
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 1
Calcium 440
Alkalinity 8
Phosphate 0 (according to API) I plan on getting a more accurate kit for phosphates
So after reading Randy's excellent simple version of the guide to ORP, I get that ORP mostly is the battle between oxydizers and reducers. A reducer can be food, waste, dead things and probably a ton of other stuff. Would it be fair to draw a conclusion that Dino's killing microscopic things in...
Ok, my tank has been setup for 6-7 months for this very much could just be "the uglies". This has been going on probably 6 weeks without much sigh of slowing down.
Under the scope the move like crazy for 5-10 min and then all die off. It looks like they have two tiny clear tails (sorry my...
