Hey all,
I don't have a microscope.
Just want to know of there's a way to tell the difference between cyano and Dinos without one.
The video attached is what I have in my tank currently.

So I’ve been running my first reef tank for about 4 months now. 30 gallon with 10 gallon sump. About 5 gallons of the sump space is setup as a refugium. Never really had much of an ugly phase until a month and a half ago when I had a huge dino outbreak. Within a few days everything was...
Hi everyone. I have had my 20g up and running for 6 months now and have recently encountered. Sorry for the poor photo quality but my microscope does not magnify much more while maintaining clarity.
Please help identify the type of dino and what you guys have experienced in the best way to...
I was gifted a mature, stable, but neglected 75g reef a few months ago, quickly added a lot of fish without quarantine and had A very mild ich outbreak. Started dosing Polyp Lab Medic in response and a few days later, I noticed small amounts of dinoflagellate algae everywhere in my display tank...
Hi everyone! I am looking for some help to eliminate or at least cut back the Dino problem in my tank. A little background, I have a 15 gallon nano reef that is around 8 months old. I am running an AI prime as the light, no skimmer, and a fluvial UV sterilizer in line with a Oaze 30 gallon...
The third nutrient is my theoretical thinking on nutrients and understanding of aquarium stability and balance.
The third nutrient or Carbon is a nutrient that not often talked about and little is known of its function and effects to the other Nutrients in reef aquaria, not much is know to...
When i try to scrape it off it disperses like sand. Everything is turning brown, even the substrate and glass. I tried buying a phosphate test buy i could find it here so i’ll try and see if an aquarium store can perform the water tests. The ammonia is at 0.25ppm and salinity at 1024
Hello,
I'm looking for experienced reefers that have cases of Dinoflagellate getting expulsed out from the Gorgonian on a regular basis.
I have a Gorgonian Pterogorgia citrina (at least I think?) and on a regular basis it expulses a bunch on Dinoflagellate from its body, It's literally in...
Let me introduce myself, my name is Paulo Scaldaferri, a Brazilian reefer who have been dealing with dinos as a special area of interest: I had it on my own tanks many times before and sometimes for months.
This led me to an avid interest of study of those alveolates, including reading many...
Hi guys, I've been reading this group for many months.:)
6 weeks ago I started my cycling of a 43 gallon tank without fish and with dry rock and live sand. There is no longer ammonia or nitrites and nitrates are at 100 ppm (Red Sea) and phosphates are barely detectable, 0.01 (AF) or zero. For...
I was thinking about something a little different here, we surelly do not have a simple solution that works for all dinos, unfortunatelly, but for a long time we started to understand what are great conditions that predict dino problems in the future.
So this list is kind of a joke (many items...
Im battling some red dusty algae all over the sand and rocks in my tank. I have never seen diatoms or cyano present like this so im not sure what it is or how to treat it. Its a fine dust that settles into a sheet on the rocks. Its not the typical dark purple/red of cyano. Its fire engine red...
Have some snot on the back glass, that's growing in an interesting pattern. It's ONLY growing on the glass, and both the turbos and nerites are eating it, so I don't think (fingers crossed) it's dinos. Some of the strings are nearly a foot long, but no bubbles. Where it's growing best is on the...
So my tank has had dinos for a few months, going from good to bad good to bad to worse, with recently being REALLLY bad. Here is a pic from a month or two ago.
And here is what it looks like now.
To be honest, im really not sure what I did. I manually removed it now and then.
the biggest...
I’ve been trying to battle this ‘brown algae’ for quite a long time now. I’ve finally gotten a microscope to observe all the cells in my aquarium. Does the picture below look like Dino cells. The cells do move around and they go away at night and come back in the day. This makes me think it is...
Hey everyone,
I have a pretty new tank setup. 100 gallon DT, 32 gallon sump. About 120ish total volume.
I used cycled media from a previous tank to help get this one going, along with Dr Tims bacteria. It is about a month old.
Here's my stock: 2 clowns, 1 royal gramma, 1 BTA, 1 Rock Nem, lps...
Can anybody help. New to here and tank around 9 months old. Had an algae outbreak. Not the best pics but starting to stand up with air bubbles on the tips. More brown/orange under whites. Goes away over night nearly completely and then back when lights on. Running 5 hours blue and 2 hours white...
so i think i have dinos in my sump or something like that i’ll post a few pictures and i know they aren’t the best pictures but they where the best i could get
and i’ll also try to describe it it’s like a weird matt with bubbles in it or could this be something else
So ive got a pretty nasty dino outbreak in my 150 gal. They spread over the entire tank in less than 2 days from when i noticed them. I added vibrant this past monday at the reccomended dose and by thursday every acro i had has bleached white and died and my lps that were doing great ( torches...
Does anyone know what is on my sand and rocks? It is covering some of my softie corals at the back of the tank. GSP, Zoas and a toadstool coral. Any ideas what it is?
Hey everyone so I'm pretty sure I'm having a dino outbreak. Tank is 25 gal and been setup for a few months but with some existing live sand and rock from my previous tank. Tank is an AIO so I just have basic filtration in the back and was running chemi pure elite. I then switched to chemi pure...
I think I discovered some dino algae growing in my tank. My tank is about a week old now & I read that this is fairly common in new tanks. Any ideas on how I can get rid of the dino’s before it’s too late?
