Can I Feed Copepods Algae Wafer or Fish Flakes?

Hi, I bought a bottle of tiggerpods and poured them into a refugium with chaeto that I just set up today as well. I am wondering if I can feed them fish flake/algae wafers instead of spending more money on culturing phytoplankton. Thanks!

Looks like a pod but any confirmation?

So I was taking a dinoflagellate ID and I saw this little pod that looks like it was stuck or it was feeding. Can anyone confirm? I attached a video, and to see it you need to be on a laptop or desktop. It doesn’t work from the phone for some reason. #reefsquad

    Brand of Bleach for Phyto

I imagine that the brand of bleach you use likely doesn't matter as long as there are no surfactants or perfumes in the bleach, but I was wondering what various brands of bleach people tend to use for their culture to get a good idea of what has been sort of "vetted" already.

Hello all! I'm new to the hobby and I'm currently in the process of cycling my 40G NUVO from IM. I'm trying to plan for eventually getting a Mandarin and I'm looking into my best options for establishing a healthy pod count for the fish. I plan on getting a captive bred Mandarin, but I still...

    Refugium function

Saltwater noob here. I've read about the importance of having a refugium, especially for reef/saltwater tanks. My understanding is that a refugium serves primarily as a home for organisms that act as biofilters, such as macroalgae and microorganisms. I have also read that they can be used as a...

What are these shrimp looking things?

So i dipped my goni in some Melafix Coral Dip and these two things came out. I don't think they are copepods because they are at least twice the size of the ones I see in my tank. Any clue what it is? They look like little shrimps and but I really am unsure whether or not they are copeods. Also...

What do tamarin wrasses eat? How do I train them onto prepared foods?

All I can find online is that anampses tamarin wrasses eat crustaceans off of rocks. What kind of crustaceans? Wikipedia has nothing on this genus. I want to train mine to accept frozen food but I don’t even know where to start since I don’t know the diet it would naturally eat. Has anyone had...

How do I keep a tamarin wrasse successfully?

So I jumped the gun on this one, I’ll admit. I just purchased a black back/china wrasse from my lfs and now I’m playing catch up. Not an excuse but I’ve never seen any store have one of these in stock before. Let alone a 5 inch specimen like I brought home. And it was only $45 so I really...

    Mysis Shrimp Bloom?

I’ve only seen this twice in the past 2 months. At night maybe an hour after the lights go off, hundreds of baby mysis shrimp are floating in the water column. Is this some sort of hatching event or something?

    Tiny Flatworms

Does anyone know if I should be worried about these tiny flatworms? I took this video of them in my refugium with a copepod for size reference.

    Copepods now or later?

Good morning r2r! What’s everyone’s opinions on adding copepods? Before or after fish are added? Should I have the refugium up and running or the dry rock will provide enough hiding spaces? I’m about 6 weeks into my initial cycle of a new 125g long and triton 44 sump. My test kits are still...

Bag/Sock Micron Size to Catch Chaeto Pieces, but not Copepods

I have a Waterbox 20 Nano running a Tunze Algae reactor. The return for my reactor feeds into the same chamber as my return pump. Loose bits of chaeto are flowing into the chamber and eventually cause my return pump to clog (even with a cover on the intake). I was thinking a simple solution...

What is the easiest and most successful way to propagate Copepods ?

I'm about to stand up two 120 gallon tanks. One will be a full reef, the other will be FOWLR. One of the fish I want to have in both tanks (after about 6 months) is a Manderin. Based on past experience, I know that I need to provide Manderins with a vast supply of Copepods. In the past, I...

Preparing for life with a Mandarin
