Hi, I bought a bottle of tiggerpods and poured them into a refugium with chaeto that I just set up today as well. I am wondering if I can feed them fish flake/algae wafers instead of spending more money on culturing phytoplankton. Thanks!
So I was taking a dinoflagellate ID and I saw this little pod that looks like it was stuck or it was feeding. Can anyone confirm? I attached a video, and to see it you need to be on a laptop or desktop. It doesn’t work from the phone for some reason. #reefsquad
I imagine that the brand of bleach you use likely doesn't matter as long as there are no surfactants or perfumes in the bleach, but I was wondering what various brands of bleach people tend to use for their culture to get a good idea of what has been sort of "vetted" already.
Hello all! I'm new to the hobby and I'm currently in the process of cycling my 40G NUVO from IM. I'm trying to plan for eventually getting a Mandarin and I'm looking into my best options for establishing a healthy pod count for the fish. I plan on getting a captive bred Mandarin, but I still...
Parasitic Crustaceans (Copepods, Isopods, and Sea Lice)
Jay Hemdal c.2020
This is an excerpt from my upcoming fish disease book - a section on arthropod parasites of fish; isopods and copepods.

Cause
This disease problem is caused by a variety of very small crustaceans that...
Saltwater noob here. I've read about the importance of having a refugium, especially for reef/saltwater tanks. My understanding is that a refugium serves primarily as a home for organisms that act as biofilters, such as macroalgae and microorganisms. I have also read that they can be used as a...
So i dipped my goni in some Melafix Coral Dip and these two things came out. I don't think they are copepods because they are at least twice the size of the ones I see in my tank. Any clue what it is? They look like little shrimps and but I really am unsure whether or not they are copeods. Also...
Hi! Anyone have some pods for sale that I can pick up, no shipping. I have a tiny mandarin. That’s barely an Inch, and she has been eating less and I don’t see a lot of copepods, my lfs doesn’t have a lot of pods today either only next week. If anyone has any near Burlington I’d be happy to come...
All I can find online is that anampses tamarin wrasses eat crustaceans off of rocks. What kind of crustaceans? Wikipedia has nothing on this genus.
I want to train mine to accept frozen food but I don’t even know where to start since I don’t know the diet it would naturally eat.
Has anyone had...
So I jumped the gun on this one, I’ll admit. I just purchased a black back/china wrasse from my lfs and now I’m playing catch up.
Not an excuse but I’ve never seen any store have one of these in stock before. Let alone a 5 inch specimen like I brought home. And it was only $45 so I really...
I’ve only seen this twice in the past 2 months. At night maybe an hour after the lights go off, hundreds of baby mysis shrimp are floating in the water column. Is this some sort of hatching event or something?
Good morning r2r!
What’s everyone’s opinions on adding copepods? Before or after fish are added? Should I have the refugium up and running or the dry rock will provide enough hiding spaces?
I’m about 6 weeks into my initial cycle of a new 125g long and triton 44 sump. My test kits are still...
I have a Waterbox 20 Nano running a Tunze Algae reactor. The return for my reactor feeds into the same chamber as my return pump. Loose bits of chaeto are flowing into the chamber and eventually cause my return pump to clog (even with a cover on the intake). I was thinking a simple solution...
hello all, I’ve been slowly adding more copepods to my tank for my mandarin, some are still left in these bags, can I use a turkey baster and drop a drop of phytoplankton in there, or should I not?
I'm about to stand up two 120 gallon tanks.
One will be a full reef, the other will be FOWLR. One of the fish I want to have in both tanks (after about 6 months) is a Manderin. Based on past experience, I know that I need to provide Manderins with a vast supply of Copepods. In the past, I...
Hello,
I have a 3 week old copepod farm set up in a 10 gallon tank. Three questions I am hoping you guys can help with.
1) How do you take the pods out of the farm to put into the display tank? With a net?
2) How do you perform water changes on the pod farm? A few sties suggest every 4ish...
Hey guys, posting in relation to my 2.5 month old 55 gallon reef tank. Just to give an idea of stability regarding water params, the tank is faring well, and so far Heliofungia and some other sensitive LPS corals are doing well, signifying to me a constant, stable ecosystem.. My fish seem quite...
Hello Reefers!
I want to start documenting my captive bred Green Mandarin Dragonet from Algae Barn. Her name is Moose :) I was shocked by her size when she was delivered (0.75 inches). So far she is extremely active (always looking for pods) and is eating frozen brine shrimp.
I will be...
I found this in my filter sock tonight. Its about 3/8-1/2" in length and very active. It curls its back tail up under itself and seems to have front arms/legs held tightly to its body like a pistol shrimp or mantis shrimp. Kind of swims on its side... or maybe that's because I don't have...
