    Cloudiness after using ReefBuffer 8.3

I used Reef Buffer to raise my ph, I knew it would make the aquarium cloudy and it made the glass white (used last night). My question is what is the best way to clean the glass with the white particles on the glass. You can see where I used an Algae scraper but it’s barely working.

How often do you clean (substrate/water changes, etc..)your tank?

It’s me again. Between googling and reading comments through multiple forums, there’s a lot of good advice but it varies enough to sometimes become a bit confusing. I’m curious how often everyone cleans their tanks (water replacement, sand/gravel cleaning, etc...). I understand this will differ...

    BOWFRONT AQUARIUM MAGNET

Hi there, I have a 36 gallon bowfront aquarium that accumulates a small amount of algae on the glass at the base near the line created by the substrate. I am finding that a traditional aquarium magnet is not able to remove this algae as the glass its self is far to curved. Does any body have...

Removing gunk between sand bed and glass??

How do you go about cleaning the glass below the sand bed? I have always been told “don’t disturb your sand bed, it could wreak havoc on your system”. Well, I have seen some darn good FTS that most definitely do not have this nasty build up between the sand and the glass that I have! I just set...

    Help with replacing sand

I have a couple questions about replacing my sand in my tank. Currently my tank’s sand bed is about 1.5” deep. After a year+ and many algae and diatoms breakouts, it has become very discolored. I have the parameters under control now to prevent those from happening again, but I’m wanting to...

    Cleaning an old storage drum

So I snagged a used 200 to 250 gallon storage drum for free. The person getting rid of it had bought the house and the old owner had left it there. The only thing he knew was that the owner owned a detergent making company and probably used it to store chemicals in it. Is there ANY way to...

    Safety advice for reef tanks

So I’ve been reading about the potential dangers to caring for a reef tank and i have read about palytoxins and Mycobacterium marinum. These are things I will worry about because I am OCD and can’t help it. If anyone has advice on how to safely care for a tank without having to worry about these...

    Cleaning near a fish tank

Let me preface by saying that I know nothing about fish tanks. I would like to clean my floors near a saltwater fish tank. My husband seems to think it will kill all the corals in his tank if I use any amount of chemicals on the floors, near his tank. To further elaborate, he has a 210g...

How necessary is it to clean your skimmer neck/cup.

So - a recent thread reminded me of a question - how often do people clean their skimmer neck/cup. I do not do it regularly - and it tends to have a thick coating of 'gunk'. I always wondered if that was putting bad stuff 'back' into the tank - though I dont think it does. Answer the poll -...

Cleaning Tips for Red Sea Reefer Series

To make it simple, the glass on my Reefer is amazing and I want to keep it looking clean and shiny as new. I'm skeptical about Mag Floats as I've scratched other aquariums regardless of how careful I am. The main problem I'm having is that my Reefer 450 gets what appear to be drip stains on the...

    Skimmer a love hate relationship

Hi all As the title says I love it for all its pulling from the water column and have come to hate the cleaning. Currently I pull it out into a bucket and hit the utility sink with a clean rag and RO water to clean it up. I don’t think there are any magic tricks to make it a slightly less...

Cleaning dead algae from rocks after outbreak

    Consensus on Barkeeper's Friend?

Hey, I have to clean a bit of caked on calcium that is being quite stubborn both inside and outside of my tank. I've heard that you can use barkeeper's friend as long as you rinse thoroughly before adding water to the tank. What is the general consensus here at R2R?

Vinegar concentration in water for cleaning old tank...

I am shortly tearing down a tank that has been running 3 years, to convert it to Triton with a new sump etc. Its a 350-litre tank and the intention is to fill the tank with fresh water and vinegar, run it with all pumps, skimmer etc for a few days to clean and sterilize it. What ratio of...

    Cleaning with Muriatic Acid

I have a 120 glass aquarium that has been sitting in my garage since the day I drained it and move to a 180. It has old, stuck on Coralline algae deposits, calcium deposits and who knows what else. I was going to use vinegar to try to get it off, but I had to get some muriatic acid for my pool...

Let's talk about EXTERNAL glass cleaning?

It dawned on me today, as I was doing some preventative maintenance in my sump, that your glass can be spotless on the inside of the aquarium but if the outside is dirty, its all for naught. Unfortunately he outside of your aquarium is seemingly an extremely overlooked topic - but as i looked...

    Keeping Your Sand Bed Clean

I'm constantly getting asked how I keep my tank so clean. I figured I would make a quick video focusing on the sand bed and how I keep it spotless. I use to "stir" it with the end of my Eheim tongs, but this method is even easier and less invasive around the corals. NOTE: If you currently...
