ok so i got this candy cane coral but when i was taking it off the old frag plus i accidentally cracked the skeleton and now when it puffs up i can’t see the mouth at all is it gonna be ok or should i try to reglue the skeleton of it.
Hi - so I never noticed this because usually when I’m poking around the tank it’s when the lights are on. But looking tonight and after some of the zoas have backed off for the evening, my candy cane looks pretty beat up on the edges. Is this from zoa encroachment or something else?
Thanks!
So it looks like one of the candy came coral frags just turned completly white and has a brown "skeleton" starting to envelope it. Funny thing is that white candy canes mouth opens and closes more then the colored ones. Anyone have any ideas?
Hi guys,
I noticed this little thing growing on the side of my cane cane coral frag. At first I hoped it was a new head, but after doing some research I think that it might be a Vermetid snail. However, while it has the same general shape of one, it does not seem to have the hard, tube-like...
Hi all,
So I have 4 frags, now what do I do with them? :)
They are still new to my tank, only a couple of weeks old, so I realize the first thing I do is wait... but what is the path to the endgame of permanently placing them?
I have a Zoa, Duncan coral, Candy cane coral, and a mushroom...
Hello all, parameters are all in check. Salinity is alittle high at .27 (trying to get it down atm, no other corals are affected). My trumpet coral has looked like this for a week now, haven’t see any tentacle extension for food. And it seems to look like it’s melting. Not sure if it’s dead.
Having some issues with my Trumpet coral. Lost two heads on it and noticed that there is some brown spots left on the skeleton. Nothing else has died and the rest of the coral looks great. I’ve had it about a year and it has split several times. These were actually the original heads. Should I...
Recently I’ve been noticing my Candy Cane getting thinner and thinner, it now had it’s skeleton completely exposed. From what I’ve heard these are supposed to be dang near indestructible... my parameters read ok (outside of higher nitrates). Coral looked decent on 14 Feb & a week later (20 Feb)...
Hey all!
I posted in an earlier thread that I received some new corals. I don't have a frag rack, nor are any of these new corals on plugs. Not exactly sure what they are, but I'm going to go with DSC Reef's guesses and say one is a brownish plating monti, a confusa spongode monti, a...
Hey guys. Posted in another post about QT'ing these corals. Figured I'd also post about identifying the exact corals or names. I know three are a species of Montipora and one is a candy cane. Just looking for specifics please. Also; ideal placement for each would be fantastic! Thanks guys.

I have a candy cane that was supposedly DOA when it arrived a couple of weeks ago. The thing is, it's not dead, and seems to be mounting a comeback, with soft tissue slowly regrowing from the calcified cups. I also have a cauliflower colt, that also seemed DOA, but it too seems to be slowly...
I'm too new to coral to really know what things should be doing, or what is alarming vs normal. My candy cane coral is looking very strange. There are some bare spots. Part of it looks like it's melting?!
Hello! I just had the surreal experience of winning a salt water tank last night. it is 30gal and has a variety of coral, live rock, a few types of snails, 2 Peppermint Shrimp and a young Clownfish. I was able to set it up last night with 90% of the original water and added 3gal of distilled...
