Most hard coral (SPS & LPS) coral keepers im sure are dosing elements back into their aquarium, but how many of us ACTUALLY know what those elements really are?
My newest YouTube video tries to explain more ..
I’m in LOVE with my Neptune Apex Controller, and it’s really turned me into a control freak! Which is great because my other love, besides my kids and wife, is SPS, and we all know that SPS love stability! So with the Apex, it allows me to log my parameters and see them in a very detailed way...
I just wanted topost this quick video I pre-ordered the GHL Maxi during the all the Black Friday sales. I Had my eye on a DOS for a very long time, but couldn't get over the shape of the DOS. I may be unique in that regard, but i had purchased 2 DOS units and two DDR's and sent them back. I...
As my tank is maturing so are my methods -- and I wanted to share the first of my side by side.
Like many out there, I started with the reasonably priced and easily available API Test Kits and have relied on them for the first months of my tanks existence with good results to date - fish alive...
To save space in my tank stand, I am considering placing the reactor about 75 feet away from the 120 gallon display tank. It would be in the lower level of my house where I have my water mixing room.
Since I plan a mixed reef that will not have a heavy SPS load, the reactor's effluent volume...
I am newer to reefing (about 6 months). I want to start trying to keep some SPS corals in my tank, Ive been successful with softies and a few LPS corals. I have a 40g IM nuvo fusion. I've been keeping track of my elements the last few weeks, and have very little swing (i'm guessing that is...
Hello all,
I have had my 72 gallon bowfront mixed reef tank for around 5 years now. I lived in Boca Raton FL for the first 2.5 years and would use natural sea water from off the coast. Corals always looked great, water tests by LFS were always good on params. The only things I would ever add...
Hi folks: long story short but after Hurricane Irma I have been dosing calcium but not alkalinity. I checked my 2-part dosing with Apex immediately after the storm, and all seemed fine on the Fusion console. Unfortunately, I forgot to prime the DOS after that major loss of power, so the pump...
Hey guys,
Starting to add some different corals to my tank. Currently have a hammer colony, zoa, birds nest, a candy cane, and 3 types on montipora. I got my first Hanna checker the other day. Tested the Calcium and it was at 261. I'm using Red Sea Coral Pro salt. Got me wondering what the...
I had the SRO 5000 for years before the hurricane took it out.
I hear a lot of good things about Geos but the Octos have the Varios Pump. My tank is 400g display and 150g sump/fuge.
Also, what feed pumps do you suggest? I thought about building an outlet on my manifold but I feel it would be...
When you start to think that you are doing the things right in this hobby, there's always a new thing that tells you that you're wrong. That's my case with KH and CA dosing. I have been dosing BRS two-part to my reef tank for about 5-6 months. Was a little hard to find the point and maintain my...
I have a 120 glass aquarium that has been sitting in my garage since the day I drained it and move to a 180. It has old, stuck on Coralline algae deposits, calcium deposits and who knows what else. I was going to use vinegar to try to get it off, but I had to get some muriatic acid for my pool...
Hey guys!
I just received the Red Sea tests for Alk, Ca and Mg yesterday. I just got finished with these tests and my readings are somewhat high. I did compare the results with API tests I already owned (Ca & Mg) and they were spot on with each other. I currently DO NOT dose my tank for any of...
So today a couple friends came to my house and are really knowledgeable about both marine and fresh water tanks, they are from argentina and brazil they came to the house for a beer and to talk about corals and fish,
one of the guys told me that he wanted to test my water so i handed him all my...
I know you can get calcium deposits, if you add excess Ca or add it too quickly, but why would I be getting calcium deposits without adding anything to the tank? I'm using Reef Crystals, and have normal water quality, as far as I can tell. Can someone tell me what might be going on? Could the...
Hi, I have a GEO reactor, and always have the problem to maintein the effluent of water running equaly, i tried several kinds of valves and methods and always the output stop or minimizes the drip rate.
i look for some different method and find the Calcfeeder pro controller of Pacific Sun...
Like the title states, I decided to break down the recommended dosing instructions per brand to help me (and possibly others) when deciding on what supplements to use and dose (and how much if switching). Also Randy, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.
I decided to do...
Hi guys,
This forum has been very helpful with all my beginner questions and was hoping some of you might shed some light on my ongoing problems with water chemistry. Tank has been up and running for about 2 months and the levels don't want to stabilize. LFS says the water still needs to buffer...
From two months i have been using calcium reactor on sps dominated 75 gallon tank. The calcium is stable around 430 ppm but the alkalinity keeps dropping if i dont dose alkalinity. Its like my tank is using alkalinity more than calcium.
how can i keep both Ca and Kh stable using just calcium...
I have been monitoring my alk every day (mostly) for the past 2 weeks and have seen some interesting trends to which I cant figure out the cause.
Tank is a 180 gallon 6x2x2 mixed reef. Three live rock pillars, sea floor special sand (1-2")
Fish are:
-Dejardini Tang
-Blonde Naso Tang
-Yellow...
So I've been advised that mixing Red Sea A (powder) in 2L coke plastic bottle will resulted in the plastic bottle not being able to handle the heat which is emitted by the stock solution.
Is this the case?
I've been battling algae on my sand bed and rocks since i think my tank went through a mini-cycle about 2 months ago when I was vacuuming my sand bed during water changes. I do water changes every other week and do about 30 gallons and now, just vacuum the algae off the surface of the sandbed...
