So I got a beautiful new Derasa clam today... covered in a few pests. Aptaisa, vermited... and some friendly isopods and such.
Couple of things about our cleaning regiment:
We QT everything regardless of what it is...
We clean all livestock as advised... scrub, razor blade, glue whatever...
have Nuvo 30 aio that now has an external overflow to sump. Peppermint shrimp got most of it in display section. However I have a media basket where that is used as a Refugium in back section of display tank before it goes through other chambers to the external overflow. Aptasia is in the Chaeto...
Hey y'all, just grabbed this guy a few days ago, and today when lights were on full blast I saw this little guy at the bottom of the frag plug. Is this aptasia? Or something harmless? It does not go back into it's tube when touched. Thanks tons :D
Howdy everyone,
I’m interested in setting up a small aptasia/snail/crab tank. I’m wondering how I can do it with the bare minimum equipment. I have a small 5 gallon glass cylinder with a tiny HOB filter and an led above. What else would I need to be successful. Not looking to keep trophy corals...
So I have been running this tank for around 2 weeks now (with fish) four weeks without. 2 weeks after I added the fish I noticed this lighter purple algae (I think it's cyano). It would be great to have an ID on this algae/bacteria (aswell as a few other potential pests). I found it odd as this...
Hi All, We're in the process of moving all our corals from our nano to 100g (no live rock), while checking/cleaning our one of our corals it accidentally broke where the skeleton had died (we've been nursing it back to health) in doing so it revealed the frag plug below which low and behold had...
We are discovering an abundance of these white "whisker" like things amongst our rocks. Our tank is currently fallow except for our CUC which includes 2 peppermint shrimp added 2wks ago for an aptasia we discovered. Wondering if this is the start of an aptasia population?
Looking for fellow reefers help. I just bought a filefish a few weeks ago to remove all the aptasia from my small tank. The fish did it's job but there's a few issues.
1. The wife does not want it.
2. it's in my 13Gallon and we think it's eating the zoas from our 13 gallon tank. All my frags are...
Received this rock with a couple of mushrooms from our local reef clubs dirty santa exchange. I dipped it and all sorts of stuff came out, but I didn't see any hitchhikers that were actually bad. I have a 20g long tank setup as a coral/invert QT... glad I did. 2 weeks later, and it looks...
I just found this! I will get a set of 5 for free for anyone who wants them!

PS- Don't you guys just love tanks that look like this ;)
I recently discovered what I'm pretty sure is aptasia growing on my Biohazard Acro. It's still fairly small. Any thoughts on how to get rid of it? I've heard injecting lemon juice, covering it in glue, or getting a specific shrimp would do it...
I have tried everything to fix my aptasia problem (Copper-banded Butterfly, peppermint shrimp, aptasia-x, and aptasia away). About two weeks ago I finally broke down and bought a CAPTIVE raised aptasia eating filefish ($30). I have always been worried about purchasing these considering the fact...
I believe even after extensive safeguards my tank is now infested with aptasia...everything was brand new, rock and sand dry...my three coral frags closely inspected and dipped...I don't believe it was my CuC...as they were added months prior to coral...thoughts?? How much "Spores" does it take...
Hi,
Yesterday I noticed my trachyphyllia wasn't doing to well, everything seemed to be okay until yesterday I noticed it was either bleaching or showing skeleton. I moved it too a lower light and lower flow area of the tank so see if this helped as it had been sat in my sand below an MP10. Today...
