Having been shocked a time or two before installing a ground probe on a new tank, I can hardily agree that there is no way I would ever have a SW tank without one.
I actually believe your ground probe should have two titanium rods attached to the ground wire(s) and the probes placed equal distance along the length of the tank to further reduce stray currents affecting the living creatures in our tanks.
The slight tingle i felt was fortunately only 35 volts AC ( measured with a DVM). Cause was a leaky ( electrically) power head which is very common.
If one life is saved by getting everyone to install ground probes then it is a blessing.
