In the SPS dominant tanks really curious how much less par do you run during your blue only hours. Please chime in with full spectrum par vs blue only par that most of your spa corals see. If you’d like add the number of hours for each. Thank you!

I run 800 par for 6 hours and 3 hours ramp up and down for a total of 12 hours.

That's just the very top though, at peak my lowest par in the corners is in the 350-400 range.

I only have whites on during the peak hours. If I were to guess my SPS get around 300-500par of pure blue spectrum on average.

I’ve only used my par meter (MQ510) when I am in full spectrum (LED and T5). I am 350-400bottom 1/3 500+ top 1/3. Presently 5 hours in FS and 7 in B. I’m slowly taking my schedule to 100%, I’m at 70% and will get to my goal of 7 hours of FS in about 3-4 months.

Whoa how are they ok with that much light? Are these LEDs only or MH/T5s added to leds?

Yep they seem to be doing great. I basically run my lights at 100%.

I have 2 XR30 pros and 2 AI blade glows. I think this photo was taken with my lights just after the whites went out so pretty high range of par. They seem to take whatever amount of light I throw at em. Unfortunately though LPS is relegated to overhangs for the most part.

thank you! That’s pretty low blue par, I am debating on where I should keep mine but it’s around 180 for most acros at the moment.

This is under T5 only and full spectrum with an equal amount of blue plus and coral plus bulbs. I do think less par is acceptable from T5 as it covers better. I’ve had not issue growing 12 inch colonies from frags so it must be working!

I have a combination of 3x REEF LED 90 2x 48” t5 coral plus bulbs and 2x 460nm strips by Aquatop. It’s hard for me to gauge how much light the sticks need. I’m currently at 300 par average for full spectrum (all lights on) (6 hours) and 180 par average for the other 6 hours (blue strips and reef led’s on)

Any more par examples from sps systems? Just curious

It isn't an easy question to answer because it is light kit dependent. Some manufacturers have two versions of the same kit. Pro, reef, Tuna, Sun, to name a couple of examples. Other kits are a more natural spectrum. You take a natural spectrum, turn down, or off, the whites for a more blue look, that light is gone therefore reducing overall par.

About an hour and a half gets white light...the rest is just blue/violet or whatever viparspectra channel 1 is. 14 hours no ramps about 300-450 par.

I understand the spectrum differences and what you are saying. I am trying to merely get a rough idea on how to balance my white par against blue par. I mean, keep blues steady for 12 hours and just ramp up and down the whites? Or ramp up blues with the whites for mid day? And what par values have worked for other reefers.

Agreed, fellow T5 reefer. I cringe when I hear 800 par. I just can't imagine that much.
