Yellow Corris Wrasse suddenly has injuries

About a month ago I bought a yellow corris wrasse from a local seller who QT’s all his fish before selling. I haven’t seen him for the longest time and I assumed he was dead. Then 4-5 days ago he popped up swimming and happy. Today he came up when he is normally asleep and has damage on his right side near the tail. His tail looks swollen and is white near the fin. There was 2-3 little circular things in that area(to me it looks like something with a small round mouth attacked him). He swam around for about 20-30 minutes and then he went back into the sand.. not sure what to do.

all my fish are on the smaller side and haven’t shown any aggression to my wrasse. The only beef I’ve seen was between the damsel and wrasse but that was only when wrasse swam close to the damsels home.

@daftbeni my best guess is your eel comped on your wrasse’s tail but the wrasse was able to wriggle free.

The one thing I’m sure of is my eel is innocent. He is so docile and doesn’t even go for any of my inverts when hungry. He is very well behaved!

I have 5 anemones. 4 BTA and 1 maxi mini. It could be possible he was stung but he went to sleep without any injury and came up with injury.

I do have some zoas, elegance, frogspawn, hammer, torch and an assortment of different mushrooms.

Easily could have happened. Could you please post another photo with white lights? Has his behavior changed after? lack of appetite, etc...

Next time I see him out I’ll make sure to snap a pic in better lighting. He was only out for about 30 minutes till he dipped back into the sand. I did try and feed when he popped back up and he went for the food. His swimming wasn’t so hot tho. It looked like he was trying extra hard to swim around.

fwiw, I had a yellow coris wrasse disappear on me about a month ago. Eel is in the tank, and I too trust him with just about any fish. But we must remember that these wrasses sleep in the sand, eels have very poor eyesight and may mistake it for a feeding.
Maxi mini is the only one that could deliver a sting bad enough, bta won't do that.

Whenever I hear a thread title about a "new yellow coris with an injury", I immediately suspect uronema. If you can get some pictures taken under white light I might be able to tell better, but that is probably what it is. Here is an article I wrote up about this disease:

Unfortunately, there is no treatment for this once it has erupted through the skin like that, it starts internally. It won't however, spread to other fish very easily.

@daftbeni whatever the culprit of your fish’s injury, if the skin was punctured or torn there is a possibility of a bacterial infection. You will most likely have to isolate the fish and treat it for that if it does get infected.

I live in Canada so medicine for fish is extremely hard to get ahold of. Thanks for all the help. It’s very much appreciated!

The yellow wrasse is alive! I haven’t seen it since but today it finally came up fully healed. Only problem is now it looks extremely skinny and it getting stuck to my overflow. I’ll try to get him eating!

Wrasse only partially burying is a bad sign (unless the sand layer is really thin) - that usually means they are too weak to get all the way buried.

Given the time frame here, I agree this isn't likely to be uronema.....
