WV Reefer’s 75 Gallon Big and Dirty

[WV Reefer]

This tank was established in June 2017 and is about to turn a year old.

It was formerly a planted freshwater tank, but then I just had to have another reef so it was converted.

Build Info-

BRS Dry Pukani Rock
CaribSea Fiji Pink Sand

Equipment:

VorTech MP40 x 2
Aqueon Pro 200 Heater
Lights: I started out with the 48” Aquaticlife T5HO Quad fixture but I felt the light was too “flat” so I purchased the 48” Aquaticlife T5 Hybrid fixture and added two Radion XR 15’s. — much better!

The fun begins! I bought a HOB skimmer for this tank but never used it beyond just making sure it was operational.

Pepper is helping me choose the right rock.

Here’s a pic with some of the first Corals. This is the “awkward” phase

This was the great green water incident of Autumn 2017. Water change. Water change. Water change.

Both of these pics are after I switched to the new lighting set up. I love this hybrid fixture. It really opens the door for reefers to customize to their owns taste and have the best of both worlds. (Especially if you aren’t really a DIY person. ) I also like a “beefy” canopy so to me it’s more pleasing to the eye than tiny LED fixtures mounted on the rim.

Tell me about the rock suspended on the back glass. Fake rock or real rock glued? I have a deep tank I'm sitting up and that is a neat idea.

I bought it at BRS. It has two large magnets that hold it up..... even hold through my 1/2” glass.

They are a very cool option. I have a small one also. Sometimes the holes aren’t perfect so you have to improvise when using frag plugs.

Love the hybrid fixture. Wish they made a nano version. Guy at Reef A Palooza Orlando said they are working on one.
