WTB Frags of Cyanobacteria aka: Red Slime Algae.

Hi guys,

I'm sorry for the title hehehe ... ;Shamefullyembarrased just looking for some quality pictures of Cyanobacteria to illustrate an article, can't find good quality pictures from decent camera or nice microscope shots. Please, if you have some and you don't mind them to be used for an article ... can you post them?

Not sure if these count as good lol, but feel free to use. Would be interested to see the article once finished too... my background is biology, specifically biofilms so cyano holds a particular interest.

Nope, h2o2 dosing... let me find the progression pics. I can't remember the exact dose offhand, but am going to PM you with a link which might be useful...

Before treatment, during and after. The sand was not disturbed in any way during the process, just to see what would happen. Rocks were moved to dip in more concentrated h2o2 solution.

Refer to my PM for h2o2 dosages...

Last pic is of tank now, some 6 months or so after treatment. A little came back a couple of weeks ago, but 3 days of h2o2 eliminated it again.

Thanks... beating cyano is about understanding what it is and how resilient it can be... it needs a 3 or 4 pronged assault, not just a 'dump in chemiclean' approach which is where a lot of folk go wrong imo.

Sure but Chemiclean is really good, the only one thing why it's going wrong because people are not using it right.

Agreed... it works! But because the root cause of the breakout isn't being dealt with, it just comes back again.

Hydrogen peroxide at 3% in the brown bottle. You dose it straight into the DT. Sorry I don't know the correct amounts.

Looks kind of pretty! lol Sort of like coraline! i am having a hard time distinguishing if I have red slime or red hair. Does it feel slimy to he touch? Mine is in combination with GHA and just a few dime size patches of the red stuff. Does that say anything? It does look hairy as well. Same color as your though and yours kind of looks hairy. I think I ma going to remove my corals and try a blackout approach Its way to hard for me to pull the algae off for one thing its just not long enough and I dont want o just keep letting it grow. I have heard there is a green hair thats called green turf so maybe that as well. It seems the blackout approach kills whatever type it is and I want to put some of my corals in my big tank anyway but thought i would start them off in a new tank that just cycled for a quarantine. I had a crash due to low salinity then I had a recycle and it started all this mess. i guess this might all be new tank syndrome! I suppose I have a new tank since it recycled and maybe its to much having coral and all in a new tank. I always keep my lights off for 3 months so I have never had algae b4. I know this is an old post but if anyone could give advice or let me know what hey think it is being its growing with GHA. SOrry I dont have a pic but dont know how to download on to computer! One question: is it contagious? Can I spread it from one tank to anaother? like if I put my corals in my new tank, there is GHA all in my purple star polyps, so I am wondering if the red or the green can be spread.
