Hello all. I added this fish (Ruby fin wrasse) to my main display recently. He was in quarantine for 2 weeks, just for observation. When in quarantine he looked completely normal, but a few days after being in my display his mouth and head look a bit deformed/severely swollen. There's nothing that looks like a lesion on him, so I'm not thinking it's from an injury. Please see attached video.

Thanks

While im not part of the #fishmedic
Uploading a video under white light onto youtube would work best.

Is the wrasse currently eating?
who else is in tank with him?

Definitly looks swollen.
He seems to be acting normal and eating. As I mentioned he is a new addition so I wouldn't be surprised if someone's bullying him a bit. The thing that gets me is if it is an injury it doesn't look like anything I'm used to typically seeing.

This is where white light videos help. I've had bristleworms injury my fish often. It could be a mix of things as well.

@Jay Hemdal can offer better advice on how to treat if needed.

Another reason for uploading to YouTube, not everyone can view the media on the website. Real bummer, i know.

Just trying to get you get proper help.

Beautiful wrasse

Can be damaged from netting when purchased, diving into rocks and even glass
Assure no aggression is taking place
Please post pics and if video, you tube version is best and at least 20 seconds under white light intensity

Injuries can occur without a skin lesion noticeable. The thing to we worried about is a small lesion - thats become infected that is calling swelling. If it is merely a swelling from bumping something - it should get better on its own. I cannot see the video.

It does look like an injury to me - that it is still eating is a good sign though, mouth injuries often cause a fish to stop eating.
