First I just want to start off by saying I’ve heard nothing but good things about absolutelyfish and their reviews reflect it but personally I did not have a good experience at this store and I won’t bore you with the details. I originally went to buy a Mandarin Dragonet when I saw they had some in stock online but when I got there it was sold out except for a really small captive bred one which was not taking frozen food so I looked elsewhere. I wish they updated that on their site before I drove 45 min out there but since I was there I was not leaving empty handed.

I ended up picking up a blasto coral. When I got home I was upset when I noticed it had aptasia on it. I had to leave the coral in the little jar it came in and put it in the back chamber of my aio tank to kept the temp acclimated and I had to wait two days for the kalkwasser to come in the mail. I treated in the little jar it was in and then placed it in my tank the next day but I hope it’s not too late.

You left the coral in a jar for 2 days, nuked aiptasia with kalk in the jar and then sealed it back up for another day?

I never sealed it but yah. I had no other choice besides putting it in my tank with the aptasia. I took my chances and waited until I got the kalk first. Hoping for the best.

I believe what @Cell is referring to here is that you put the Blastos back in the jar for 2 days without oxygenation or anything? Real big potential for ammonia spikes.

Then, by adding Kalk to the jar you probably caused a large increase in Alkalinity which can play games with pH and both of those situations can kill corals.

Looking at the picture, there might be color left on one or two of the polyps which means, as of the time of the picture, it was still alive. Blastos can bounce back so I'd definitely give it time but it's likely very irritated if it's alive so it may take some time to recover if it recovers.

I wish I had a qt tank but I had to work with what I had. I paid 30 bucks for the coral and I didn’t want to get too invested in it but the alternative was throwing it in the garbage. I’m just hoping it’s really irritated and it’ll bounce back. I’ll update this post if it does.

Yep. Unfortunately for most of us, failure is a great teacher.
