Will a Yasha Goby pair up with a pistol if I add them at separate times?

I'm really keen on having a Yasha Goby / Candy Cane Pistol pair in the tank, but right now Candy Cane Pistols are seeming to be pretty difficult to find. If I bought the Yasha first, then add a Candy Cane later once I find one, would the Yasha accept the pistol even though they weren't added at the same? Is it better to wait till I can find a Candy Cane so I can add them at the same time, or would pulling the Yasha out, covering up it's burrow, then re-adding it along with the Pistol also work?

I'm curious if anyone has done this before and how it worked out

Adding at the same time, in my experience, didn't increase the chance/speed of them pairing up. Can be instant, hours, days, or never.

I currently have 3x gobies, and 3x shrimp and only two sets paired -- and it's the two that were dropped together that never hooked up! Go figure.
