Ahoy all, I believe I know the answer to this but wanted to double check with people that have had them to be sure. Part of my stocking list for a new 150g tank is a singular tang, the whitetail bristletooth since they're smaller and more mellow. My stocking plan was Foxface > Copperband > Clowns/Assorted Wrasse > and finally the whitetail bristletooth tang. I'm aware that the rule is tangs last, but nearly everything that I read says they're chill with everything except the occasional tang. I have the perfect opportunity to get one healthy, locally from a good source, already QTed, and for a good price. The catch is that it'd end up being at the beginning of my stocking list and everything else would follow. The tank is a bit immature but I'm transferring over from an established tank and its been well cycled so I'm not concerned on that front.

I'm operating under the assumption that I should stay the course and add it last, but if anyone who has them has experience with how they handle non tang new additions to a tank I'd greatly appreciate your input. Thanks all.

Last is fine. It’s a 150g, so you have good space.
Alternative would be
Clowns
Copperband (cause he’s takes a bit to get stable)
Wrasses.
Fox face and tang same time, so we can spread any agression, or separate if you like.

I have that tang with yellow, blue and sailfin, no issues before or after.

I did yellow and blue at same time.
Months later the sailfin and white tail.

In 180g

I will most likely pass up on it this time and wait and add it last. It just feels bad to miss out on the perfect fish. The condensed version of my post is, how much aggression would I expect in adding the tang first and everything else after if I'm not adding any other tangs? I see a lot of posts saying the whitetail bristletooth is pretty nonaggressive for a tang. I don't have experience with other tangs so I don't know how to quantify that.

The unknown to me is if they're aggressive just with other tangs? Other herbivores? Everything? Everything if they don't have enough territory?

Lived with tangs, anthais, clowns, chromis, copperband, hawk fish, mandarin, dottyback.

If it were me I would go for it. There is a risk with the copperband and fox face but I think it will be fine. They are in demand fish so it’s not like you couldn’t find a new home for it if aggression was a real problem.

Bought my white tail a month after I added my yellow tang. They’ve been nothing short of best friends. I call em the tang gang (real original I know). This is in a 100g.

I think white tails are good utilitarian fish and not aggressive so adding hin early is fine in that size tank.

Alright, I did end up going for it. I got a quarantined one from Pacific East Aquaculture. I've got an acclimation box to play it safe with additions but what I read didn't suggest that they'd likely be overly territorial towards wrasse/clowns/etc. Maybe the fox face as they're competing herbivores but just keeping everything well fed should reduce that risk. I'll try to remember to come back and update this thread months from now for anyone else with the same concern in the future.

The issue ended up resolving itself. I placed the order but there was a miscount and they didn't have the fish available. They called, refunded me, and offered to honor the sale the next time they have them if I'm so inclined.
