Hi everyone,

I have a new midas blenny that has been in the tank since Friday. The introduction did not go that smooth as he swam directly into my clownfish and their home- so my female clown bullied him the first day. (Literally dragged him by his tail through the sand). Now that he is away from them, everyone in the tank is happy again. My midas blenny loves perching between the two torches and has been eating great. Although I noticed there are some white dots on him and I hoping it is not ick. There was one or two that I saw fall off. I am wondering if this looks like ick or maybe sand particles since he did get dragged through it... Also my rocks are white so I am not sure. He is eating great and so far none of my other fish have white dots. I have attached three videos below

Here is a few pictures in case the videos got too compressed. Included a pic of an imperfection on one of the fins.

Cant see much with a tail hanging out but keep an eye on fish the next few hours as this may be grains of sand and will fall off

Yeah sorry he hides in there all the time haha. The spots seem to be mainly by his tail anyways. And a one or two on the dorsal fin

Need clearer pics as I know it can be a challenge with certain fish. I believe its sand. At worse Lympho which is viral and not a disease.

I’ll try to get more if it stays there. It’s difficult since he hides between torches or dashes around fast for food but I’ll try my best! I’ll look into lympho as well. Thank you!

Great to hear its eating as starvation is one of the industry issues.
Assure it gets foods listed as its both a meat and veggie eater: Mysis shrimp, Formula 2 frozen, Spirulina brine shrimp, Chopped krill, sponge contained in Hikari angel formula.

better pics they are and are now what I see may be ich after all especially with dots also on the fins.. How are the other fish looking as far as dots?
I am often reluctant to recommend copper with these fish but general cure will work and be milder with these fish and fish should be treated in a separate tank. I see the tail has been nipped- What other fish are in tank with your Midas?

My Midas Blenny was the boss of the tank even over the 2 aggressive clown fish. Once she/he is settled, don't be surprised if she takes over the tank.

Pics look like ich to me...especially since the poor fish is highly stressed at this time. I think your main options are managing the ich in your system with healthy foods, good water quality, etc... or removing and placing in a hospital tank with copper treatments.

Yellow watchman and 2 clowns. He got picked on the first day by the clowns but now everyone is getting along. No other dots on any other fish. He has been eating lots. Should I pull him out and treat him? I don’t have a qt tank but I can set up a hospital one. Or should I leave him in since everyone is eating lots?

Eating is great but you dont want any protozoans to reproduce and cycle and start an infestation. A treatment tank does not hurt. One thing that crossed my mind- Could this be sand? If you saw these dots multiple over the last couple of days- Consider treatment. Api General cure will be safe for this fish.

It’s been around for a few days so I’ll probably assume the worst… I’ve seen a few fall off but maybe that was something else

Hey sorry for the bump again. I’ve been keeping an eye and the dots have disappeared while others have reappeared in different places within a shorter time. I think it may be sand. My fish moved spots so I could actually get a good picture and now there are no dots besides the one on the fin, which has been there since I got him. I’ll attach pictures of my fish today on the top of the rocks showing the dot and the last two are the day I first got him with that same dot. All fish still eating well and no one else has dots right now. I’m starting to think it was sand. But let me know what you think!

As mentioned, they often pick up sand. Just keep an eye on it t assure its indeed sand and not tromonts reproducing
