Hi guys, I recently picked up a very healthy Copperband from my trusted LFS. He was feeding on various frozen foods at the store when I bought him. He has acclimatised to my tank well and feeds on frozen mysis and devours live muscles.

Recently I have noticed a buildup of small white and black spots on his dorsal fin and tail and was wondering if anyone could identify it.

I’m thinking either white ich or Lymphocystis - yet that doesn’t explain why some dark regions are forming too. Is it possible he also has black ich?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Dan.

Some of that is for sure lymphocystis - on the dorsal fin. The darker spots are probably that as well. Lymphocystis virus causes the fish’s cells to grow giant sized. If the normal color of those cells has a color to it, the lesions will grow in that color. I’ve seen white, gray, orange, yellow - many different colors.

The fish is a bit thin on its nape - you’ll want to feed it up as much as you can.

If eating well, offer it LRS Herbivore diet, plankton, chopped clam, spirulina mysis shrimp and Hikari marine cuisine
