Hi!

I’m looking for some guidance on which of my following corals I should spot feed (Reef Roids), and roughly how often.

I had just assumed that all would benefit, but was reading earlier that Candy canes may not like it (as 2 of mine seem a little shrivelled up). Here’s what I have in my system:

  1. 1 Green sinularia
  2. 3 zoas
  3. 1 Galaxia
  4. 1 purple frog spawn
  5. 1 green frog spawn
  6. 3 candy canes
  7. 2 alviapora
  8. 3 goniapora
  9. 1 mushroom anemone
  10. 1 duncan
  11. 3 chalice
  12. 1 lobophylia
  13. 1 maze coral
  14. Many xenia (lol)
I usually spot feed 2-3 times a week, and also doze AllForReef via my ATO. Everything is looking great, apart from 2 of my candy canes (shrivelled up, not puppy as usual), and 2 of my chalices (dull colour and lack of growth)

Thanks!

(Sorry if I triggered anyone with poor coral name spelling lol).

Another day, another piece of conflicting advice in reef keeping, haha. But thank you! Any other views from anyone?
IME, they all will but some will benefit from spot feeding more so than others. The Gonis and Alves will love spot feeding more than some of the softies may.

IMO coral foods do nothing except raise phosphate. Fish poop is best coral food.
Interesting. I have sorta wondered if they're a bit of a scam lol. So do you not use coral foods at all?

I have never fed any of my coral and I believe it to be completely unnecessary.

Well, it may be necessary for the vendors who sell junk food for corals.

The best food for coral is light and fish waste.
Feed the fish and they feed the coral.

This 75 gal tank is 3 years old

The only one rule is DON'T feed them every day, other than that, its all opinions to different coral reactions in different tanks.

Personally I broadcast feed reef roids maybe once every 2 weeks, only when my phosphate reads below .05

I find that paying more attention to excellent water quality, good lighting and good flow will yield better results than feeding.
