Hey guys, so I got a colt coral like 5 days back and I placed him on the sand bed with some stones, it was all good and he opened up nicely as well, but when it opened up fully i realised that it kept hiting the rock work and tried bring it a little forward but I just couldn't get the placement right(I had my flow at 30% alternating between two pumps during this time). Then i removed one of the rocks and placed him higher up yesterday, he opened up a bit today and seemed to be fine but the thing is that i can't increase the flow past 20% now as he gets blown around a bit. I'll send pictures of the scape, let me know where would be a good place to put him and if turning up the flow to 30% would be ok.
I plan on putting this coral at either sides of the back when it becomes taller, i will probably do the same with my toadstool.

This is where it previously was:

I moved this rock:

And added the colt coral here:

This is what it looked like fully opened:
(I mainly got this coral because of its movement and to put at the back of the tank when it grows taller, it will mainly be kind of like a filler tree like coral with movement if that makes sense)

Leather corals like flow, don't worry about blowing it around, thats what it likes, so put it in a higher flow area. Find a spot and try to leave it alone, every time you touch or move it bothers it. Its a hardy adaptive coral and it will adjust to where you put it, but it does like high flow. Give it space to grow because it will grow fast.

Straight in the garbage :D

Just kidding. They will prefer gentle flow, indirect, but they can handle quite a bit. There might be a period where they seem annoyed as they get used to it.

I’ve posted two videos, on YouTube with the two different flows. One is at 20% and one at 30%, it doesn’t seem like too much at 30% as well but if you see the whole video (30 seconds each) you will see that the coral gets a quick gush of flow once in the video that’s what caused it to close up at first. I can try keeping the flow at 30% and see if he adjusts tho. For now I’ll show you the videos.

20% flow:

30% flow:

The first video looks better to me, not because of 20% or 30%, but because you can see it waving back and forth, that is what you want. In the second video, the flow is stronger on one side, you can see the coral pulling more to one side, not back and forth like the first video. Do you know what I mean?

Right that makes sense. Is it ok if I give you another link to a new video? Like after a few hours? Just to see how the coral is reacting to the higher flow? I hope you are ok with that :)

Hey, I’m giving another video, this is a little longer at 1 minute and 1 second, the video is both with and without a blue light filter. So please see the whole video if you can, than way you can see how the coral flows now.

Link:

Should I keep the flow at 30% and see what happens for a few days, just to see if he likes it later on or not and if he adjusts or not, or should I just put the flow back to 20% and or put him back to his original space, since it seemed like all the other corals were also liking the 30% flow as well.

TIA
