I did the RODI thing with salt on a 230g.
No issues.

Anecdotal evidence of adding RODI water to DT and then salt and mixing it is not a prove that it is recommended or best method.
I recommend mixing salt in a container and than filling DT with saltwater, not RODI water.
Salt may not mix evenly in large DT with rock there.

When I filled my 900 liter tank I ran a line from my RODI unit to the tank. I let everything run for a few days to check for leaks, then I added the salt directly to the tank. I only do this system when it is a new tank.
I did leak check with tap

Braver man than I. Why though?
The thinking was that multiple water changes with RODI after the initial fill, lessened any impact tap water would actually have, and I don’t need 6 brutes, 1 brute was all I need.

Ran into no issues whatsoever.
No cycling issues, no algae issues, couldn’t tell any difference from past set ups.

But I repeat, initial water only, afterwards always 0-1ppm tds RODI.

It’s now 3 years.
