I was scanning my tank today during break in and I noticed this little guy growing on my rocks. Any ideas??? I recently added chaeto from lfs could it have hitch hiked? I am still in break in period so have no livestock.

Aiptasia. They can take over a tank. A few Peppermint Shrimp would do the trick. It's a little hit and miss, but they eat 'em. Filefish as well.

Personally I'd take the rock out if you can !
If you end up trying to kill it and don't do it with caution, it will spread everywhere
Agreed with this! If you want to keep the rock chisel out/off the aptasias. Get an inch or more of rock with it. Your rockscape looks relatively new, this shouldn’t be a problem.

100% agree . My friend tried to kill his aptasia with aptasia x and now he has hundreds in his system.
I've had my tank a little over 2 years and have seen 2 in my system. Pulled the rocks straight out and touch wood never had any since . Last one was well over a year ago

I do agree with just pulling the rock and chiseling the anemone away.

That said, I had a couple on some rocks I got from TBS and I didn't want to give any of that up. I had good luck using an insulin syringe you can purchase for like 25 cents at any pharmacy, and injecting the 'nem with lemon juice. That worked for me.

Good luck!

I took the rock out and sprinkled straight kalkwasser powder on it and waited a couple minutes then scraped it off and put the rock back in.

not usually the way to use kalkwasser. It is more about smothering it in a paste or having it ingest it. I would still put a dab of super glue over the specific spot it was just to be sure

It's gone... Somewhere in public sewer system. It was the size of a penny. Choked it with fresh air and kalkwasser powder, picked it off with the tips of scissors and washed it down the drain. He was a definite hitchhiker from my lfs.
