I got this brain coral about a week ago and in the last couple days I've noticed what looks like a white stringy ball on the underside of its skeleton. I know the picture isn't super great, but does anyone know what this could be? Thanks.

The picture is a little blurry, but the organism appears to be a sponge (white sponges are highly variable, so chances are, the ones shown below are not 100% matches), which are usually harmless filter-feeders. Does it seem to be negatively affecting the coral?

Thanks for your response! I was hoping it was a sponge. It doesn't seem to be negatively affecting the coral as of now.

These comments are obviosly not from brain surgeons. The spot on the base of the brain:
noun: pituitary gland
  1. the major endocrine gland. A pea-sized body attached to the base of the brain, the pituitary is important in controlling growth and development and the functioning of the other endocrine glands.
  2. I had to look it up, but we all were thinking it.

  3. Is your head itching now? Mine is. :)

Actually, the cerebellum is the most accurate answer to the OP's question, but medulla oblongata sounds cooler and is right next to it :)
The pituitary doesn't fit the placement in the photo either.

How about a top view of that brain.
Here are some pictures of the brain I took today. Don’t worry it’s sitting well above that RFA, the angle is deceiving lol.

Unfortunately I don’t have a quarantine tank, but I did send it to rehab before adding it to the system so I’m hoping it stays clean.
