What is happening to my elegance coral?

Hi. I got my elegance a little more than a week ago, and it has been doing great ever since. Now all of a sudden today, the elegance coral shrank up considerably within an hour and its mouth was enlarged. It then started excreting brown goo/string from its mouth. Later on the elegance came slightly back open but it appears very stringy and beat up. Thank you in advance, and the following photos are chronological (All were taken today). The lights were also beginning to turn off in the last one.

I had issues with elegance corals until I got them midway up in the tank with some moderate intermittent flow on them.

Thank you. He actually opened back up today which surprised me. Not sure what all of that yesterday was about with him closing up a lot, but it seems like everything is okay now. Thank you for the response.
