Went to re-order nitrate reagent and just about had a heart attack, it's $25 for 25 tests. Checked my email for the last order, it was $13 in November 2023. Almost 100% markup since last year is crazy. I thought the cuvette which magically erases the white fill line after a while but not the black Hanna logo took the cake, but this is outrageous. Does anyone know if there's generic versions of whatever is in these packets, these people are out of control.

One other thing to complain about... I just checked my nitrate and there is no way this result is correct. So now I need to test it again. The same thing happened last week too

N isn’t that important as long as it’s in the system, and it can have a large range of like 2-20 ppm, and corals seem to do pretty well regardless if at the high or low end.

Just test less, and remove anything that’s depleting N. Hanna sucks for price gouging us.

Ya I only test no3 once a week. Maybe every two weeks. Just to keep my carbon dosing in check and make sure I don't bottom out

Fwiw I did contact the owner of ABC reagents and he said he probably could make a suitable reagent but the price at the time wasn't this egregious, so he didn't have interest

I just bought a bundle on eBay a few weeks ago,

HI713-25
HI774-25
HI772-26

All brand new sealed boxes for 30$ shipped. One of them I didn’t even need, I sold on here for a couple bucks to help out someone that did need it.

Actually, I talked to them about it at RAP the other day. They haven’t had a price increase for a few years. They did a 15-20% increase across the board. The cost of inflation has hit everybody, including them. It cost them more for shipping, production, chemicals, R&D etc. I like their product and wouldn’t want them to start "cheaping out" on quality, so I am fine with it. Yes, I stocked up with show special pricing... But just be on the look out for "Toms" emails for discounts every few months and stock up then.

I don't believe that it's an increased markup, inflation and cost increases take a big bite.
And they're made in Europe I believe.

FWIW, They've always been around $1 test for me, and I stopped using them and went back to Salifert.

Salifert is just as accurate and a lot cheaper, albeit a little harder to read under 10ppm.
I only test monthly anyway, it's pretty obvious if Nitrate gets too low.

It's not Hanna, it's a lot of aquarium product price inflation. To be fair to the manufacturers, when you inflate the money supply as much as we have all done over the last few years, we should all expect the value of our money to be worth far less than before.

Only nitrate prices seem to be elevated at the moment. Maybe a supply shortage
I agree. Nitrate is up for me but my Alk (the one I use the most by a huge margin) and ULP are both about the same.

Only reason I am really even testing nitrate right now is because I have a new DIY dosing mix. Once I am done with that it will be back to monthly or even less.

If the Alk test goes up, though, I am in trouble.
