Clownfish aren't the only animals that adopt anemones as their host. Surprisingly, dozens of animals regularly seek refuge in anemones' deadly tentacles. James Fatherree explores the other fish and crustaceans that associate with anemones.
Hovering fish, like cardinals, are less likely to be eaten. Clownfish and maybe some domino damsels, and other hosting fish that should be completely safe, are probably your best bet.
Depending on tank size, you may be able to keep 2 pairs of clownfish, of 2 different species. Clarkiis, pink skunks, and the like are good options to go alongside the more classic ocellaris or perculas.
(Do double-check how much space they'd need for that to work, I don't remember off the top of my head. And don't try it with maroons- maroons are best kept as the only fish in the tank, unless everything else is also large and tough.)
