Hey all! I added some coral to my tank today and got a little water on my carpet, so the carpet is a bit damp. I was messing with my aquarium a bit ago and suddenly felt a shock. Fish and coral seem fine, but I touch the water and get a jolt. I had my girlfriend try, same thing. I try again a few minutes later, no issue. My brother came over and I have him try, no issue. I then try a few minutes later and get a jolt. At this point I realize I’m barefoot on the carpet, as was my girlfriend. Put my flip flops on, no issue, take them off, shock. It dawns on me I’m standing on the damp spot, so I move to a dry spot on the carpet, take my flip flops off and touch the water, no shock. Foot back on the damp area, shock.

Can someone tell me what is happening?

TLDR: When I stand on a damp spot on my carpet, my aquarium water shocks me but when I stand on a dry spot or have shoes on, there’s no shock. What gives?

Bad advice but unplug one thing at a time till you don't fill shock no mo!
I've done many times over the years

I’m wondering why it would just be the one damp spot on the carpet. I put a t-shirt over the damp spot, no shock at all.
There’s no conductivity going from your carpet to the tank if something is covering the wet spot, watch some videos of people holding hands and touching electric fences, it explains how it works

I had a little static type shock when reaching into mine. My skimmer, wave maker and return pump are DC. The only AC is my heater. I ended up adding a titanium grounding probe into the back AIO chamber and it went away. It just makes me feel better too!
