I’ve been out of the hobby for a little while but just purchased a Waterbox Reef 150.4. I looked through the forums but does anyone have recommendations for a protein skimmer. I feed a little heavy and will have some SPS

I just ordered this one for a water box 110.4, but I bet it would handle your size tank just fine. I have not gotten it yet, but thought I’d point you in the direction of what I thought was a great deal. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/akul...=13168&indexName=brs_prod_m2_default_products

I had decided on your tank for my upgrade, started saving and planned on purchasing it on Black Friday and then my daughter got engaged and my wife told me how much we were responsible for. After she helped me up from the floor the upgrade funds became wedding funds. I’m now shooting for Black Friday of 2025 .

Been doing tons of research on skimmers lately. I have the WB Infinia 150.4 too, it's not wet yet, i'm still researching and slowly buying my equipment as the budget allows.

Depending on your own budget, this is a very good mid-range skimmer that i have settled on. https://www.coralvue.com/regal-200int-protein-skimmer It's a reef octopus. You'll want the 200 version if you're going to have a heavy bioload. You can go with the classic, regal or elite version depending on your budget. They all have great reviews.

The 150int mentioned above would work if you have a light bioload.

Other good names I've come across are Nyos, Aquamaxx and the great white skimmer.

Awesome deal there! I don't think it'll work for OP as he mentioned a heavy bioload and this is rated for only 79 gallons on a heavy load.

BRS Recommended for tanks up to:

  • Heavy Bioload (Most Common) - 79 Gallons
  • Medium Bioload - 125 Gallons
  • Light Bioload - 185 Gallons

I would suggest that’s a very modest rating, if you look at the air draw and size of the skimmer. But yes according to that chart it would be too small. If you read between the lines and even in some Youtube vids the distributor talks about how underrated the skimmers are by the company capacity wise. Mine came in. It’s well constructed. I still don’t have a tank to put it on yet.

I had an Ultra Reef Akula on my IM 100EXT (transferred from a smaller system). Great skimmer, but it was under rated for my system. Recently purchased and Octo Elite 200 INT. Wow, great skimmer. It's been running for about two weeks and cannot believe the junk it pulls out. Also running a CO2 scrubber on it with a two way valve so I can add room air into the mix. My PH is now balanced from 8.3 at night to 8.5 during the day.
