I've finally gotten my Waterbox Infinia 150.4 to be fairly quiet but it's not yet silent. It took some time for the system to "break in" and then I finally have everything pretty well dialed in. The last remaining noise is coming from the water cascading through the WIER. I'm got my primary drain as high as it can go and it's almost silent and I've got the water level so that it "barely" trickles into the E-drain but in order to get more silent I need to extend the height of my E-drain a pinch. Due to the fact that the "Return Line T" goes over the E-drain I can't just add an extension. I've gotten a brand new E-Drain kit from WB and I have added a pair of 45's to raise and MOVE the E-drain intake up and away from the Return T.

Here's the video I went by:

It was simple to make and since I bought a whole new E-drain kit I can easily go right back to "STOCK" easy as pie. I hope to get a chance to implement, test, and TWEAK this in the coming week.

If you want just a small increase in height a coupling would do it.
Cut off the excess above the step inside where the pipe stops.
Usually gives you about 1/4".

Normally that would work but the "T" from the Return Line goes directly above the Main Drain and the E-Drain making a simple "extension" impossible. That's why I'm using a pair of 45's to get the E-drain behind the "T" and then add the height extension.

See if these screen grabs clear it up any:

The MAIN drain is the "star wheel" looking item in the lower left. The E-drain is the pipe end you see in the upper/middle right. The "T" coming from the Return Pump is the main grey pipe you see going Left to Right and goes through the wall of the OF Box and into a nozzle on each side.

Here's a slight more clear picture that might help:

And here is what it should look like when it's completed (height will have to be manually tweaked afterwards to get it dialed in).

Necessity is the mother of invention.
Nice thinking.
They sure fit a lot in that small space.
A bigger box would have been better.

Thank you! I have a Waterbox 230.6 with the same issue. 10k on a tank that sounds like a waterfall - it's why I got rid of my RedSea. Waterbox surely can come up with a better design. Anyway, I did cut a piece of pipe about 1/2 an inch and put it on the overflow snug to the outlet, but didn't help with noise at all. I'm going to follow your lead. It's quiet now?

To be honest, I haven't had time to install the "upgraded" E-drain yet. Ironically the system has become very quiet about 95% of the time other than shutdown/startup of the main return. One thing I did change was how my ReefWave 45's were being directed. I believe the "turbulence" they are creating in the center of the tank (right at the grate of the OF) is crating a much more pronounced "water fall" effect/sound. I changed the flow ever so slightly and the "turbulence" is happening lower in the water column (still giving surface agitation but a LOT less dramatic) and the sound is about 1/10th of what it was before. I discovered this when I was tinkering with pump/wavemaker schedules and realized that when the ReefWave45's were off the OF was almost silent. BINGO!!

It's interesting you mention that. I have been messing with it all day and my wavemakers are on random % strength every few seconds. I noticed it much louder as the surface was agitated more. Maybe before I start cutting pipes, I'll mess with the flow. Thanks so much!

Also, how high is your water level from the top of the glass? Thanks.

I did the upgrade that's in the youtube video on this thread, mostly. I just used slightly shorter pipe fittings I got at the hardware store so I didn't have to cut pipe or even remove it. Just unscrewed the outlet piping so I could move it to the side and it fit like a glove. The overflow is now silent.
