Hi everyone I just tested my tank last night my ammonia was 0.45 and my nitrate was 20.5 also just had fish in it for about a week. I was planning on doing my first weekly water change on friday. Do you think I should do it sooner?

What fish are in it? I'd add some bacteria to help with the ammonia first... If its something hardy such as a clown or damsel, then you can hold off on the water change for a little longer. (Since your tank is new). Usually waterchange scheduals are different for everyone. It just depends how fast your tank produces nitrates. Once youre around 20-30, then its a good time to do one.Hi everyone I just tested my tank last night my ammonia was 0.45 and my nitrate was 20.5 also just had fish in it for about a week. +1. And ain't that the truth?! Water changes are VERY personal aren't they?! Now, its a little late for take-backsies, but I'd have waited on fish until the tank was cycled. From here forward, though, I'd wait before adding anymore. And no, you didn't mess up. There are two modes of thought (Team Jacob and Team Edward) with fish or fishless cycling. What fish are in it?
