Ive been using the red sea dosing methods A,B, and C. But i want to switch to BRS 2-3 part to save some money. I'm considering soda ash for Alk, calcium chloride for cal and magnesium chloride for mag.

Has anyone done this? Just curious if there will be any issues doing a cold switch or if switch over time.

But it is a bit confusing on which Alk, Cal, and Mag to choose from.

My recommendation is to use soda ash/calcium chloride./balling Part C. That's a more complete option than magnesium chloride, though you can use a DIY magnesium solution of you need more magnesium.

So the Tropic Marin balling C? Whats the reasoning for this?

If you use calcium chloride and sodium carbonate/bicarbonate/hydroxide to boost alk and calcium, the residual sodium and chloride slowly rise over time.

That rise in sodium and chloride raises salinity.

Since you will maintain salinity at a relatively fixed value by replacing some of the tank water with fresh, that process pushes down everything in the water (potassium, magnesium, sulfate, bromide, boron, etc.).

Balling Part C adds all of those back in the appropriate ratio. Over time, the water in the tank stays looking like seawater, rather than looking more and more like a sodium chloride solution.

My DIY third part dealt with some of these ions, but not all of them.

Pharma Magnesium Mix for 2-Part Maintenance

I this the same thing as Tropic Marins Balling C?
