We just posted the following video on the Morphologic Blog:

Alien Squid

This video was sent to us by a friend who works as a commercial oil rig diver in the Gulf of Mexico. He tells us that it was filmed at 7828 feet deep in the Mississippi Canyon trench on another project that his company is working on. I’m assuming that it was filmed with an unmanned submersible or remote camera. The creature appears to be a type of squid that has evolved incredibly long tentacles that hang downward, jellyfish-style. 8,000 feet deep is a seriously extreme environment, probably low in oxygen, zero light, and little water movement. It is incredible just how much we don’t know about the alien creatures that live at such depths.

Anyone have an ID on this creature?

Cheers,
Colin

That is WEIRD!!! Thanks for sharing, I wonder what other kinds of baddies they find down there in the abyss. My only question is, will it do okay in a nano?? :)

wow, thanks for posting that, it is really cool! kinda scary so many weird things that we dont know about that live in the deep dark depths. i know the deapest trench is like 35000 feet deep, so i wonder what kinda creapies live in that thing. if there are big creapies that live in just 8000 feet.

Looks cool. That would be cool if we can take a trip to that depth. We'll probably see all sorts of cool things down there.
