I am looking to buy a UV Sterilizer for parasite control. I have learned if you don't get the right exposure to flow right you won't be doing much. I read numerous blogs suggesting the TMC Vecton is good. I would like the 400 model but am having a hard time finding it. Does anyone know of a reputable site from which to buy it? What about a good alternative?

Thanks!

I'm using the AquaUV and likely will use same brand for next tank. I could also go with LifeGuard Aquatics, they have a new line. Of course Pentair is up there as well. At a certain point, as long as they're using the high quality components, I think they're all pretty close. I go more on if they accurately state exposure rates and flows, bulb life and casing quality.

Good Luck!

Might check the R2R sponsors area here.

I also are about to install an AquaUV unit in my Reefer 250 but more for macroalgae control after my refugium. In my case, I'd have to add a manifold with second pump running very slow to do this but it is something I have considered. Therefore, I'm going to just add it into my return pipe.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I found that the 400 TMC Vecton model was discontinued. For the time being, I am not using a UV sanitizer. Purchased a cleaner shrimp for $35 instead. So far I have only seen my blue tang be cleaned by the shrimp but I am ok with that since that is my favorite fish right now. I only see occasional ich spots or fish rubbing against structure. I think I'm ok with that. It is truly fascinated to watch a fish approach the shrimp to be cleaned.

While a UV can indeed kill some parasites if it is dialed in correctly, and there is evidence of a cleaner shrimp eating parasites off of fish, it is not enough to stop an outbreak. I encourage you to get a UV, as they help with much more than parasites, but I put the burden on you to stop them not a piece of equipment or a fish.
