55gallons system.

I just change my old leaking turbo twist 18w for the aqua advantage 2000+ 15w.
And for the first time in years, i count the gph...
My main pump feed, DT, FUGE AND UV.
They recommend 233gph min...
I am (and always been) at 45gph HUH?

1000ml / 20sec.
1000ml= 0.25gallons.
So 1gallons/80sec.
3600 /80sec= 45gph

Water out of the uv is +0,4fº of tank water...

To achieve the 233 gph i would need a seperate pump.

Is this a problem ?

The flow rate completley depends on the purpose of the UV.
1) Clearer water and algae prevention
2) Parasite control

Its 2 totally different flows.

For water clarity its suggested a U.V intensity of 30,000 microwatt's/sec/sq.cm and our U.V sterilisers are designed to deliver this at the quoted flow/contact rate through the unit...

When trying to kill the white spot parasite ... a greater U.V intensity of 72,000 microwatt's/sec/sq.cm is required to kill it.

233gph is probably more that what my DT is... (or close)
I could directly connect the uv on the return if it worth the trouble.

That’s an awfully slow turnover rate if I’m not mistaken. I’ve seen various recommendations but most I’ve seen are between 4 and 10x total volume turnover per hour. I’m running my system at around 6x turnover per hour. That means even without UV you should be at least 180 gph.

Am I missing something?

Simply put 3X of your tank size for Algae control and 1X of you tank size for Parasite

So if your is 55 gallon, it's about 55 x 3 which is 165 GPH minimum .

Remove any 45s as it would slow the flow. Just try a flex pipe direct for in and out

It’s not as simple as this, and those rates are FAR below the manufacturer’s recommendations.

At MINIMUM, a 75 gal tank should be flowing 200+ gph, not 1x as you’re suggesting.

His slightly smaller system would change the suggested rates somewhat, but not THAT much.

DT 45gallons minus rock scape...
Fuge 15 gallons .... rock scape...
Sump... don't remember... 20g maybe.
But Total volume is 55gallons.

I put uv on main return... runing roughly at 180gph now.
(Which is my ~4,5x turn over in DT)
Will observe.

Thk all
