OK, was all set on the BRS recommended Pentair 40W UV sterilizer...

Although BRS doesn't seem to stock them anymore...?

However, not sure if the quality went down after they became Pentair (from Emperor) - but there are a lot of negative reviews on the Pentair UVs nowadays...

The reviews state that after awhile the housing/casing degrades/melts and water spills out...

So I was looking at the newest BRS UV sterilizers from Aqua Ultraviolet.

However the flow rates between the two for parasites is drastically different.

The Pentair 40W UV states a maximum GPH for parasites of 262 GPH...

The Aqua UV 40W states a minimum GPH for parasites of 967 GPH...

Anyone having the same problems trying to figure out what is what...?

I see those reviews that once praised Pentair and now condemn them as propaganda all pushing the new kid on the block and shaming the tried and true.

I have a 25 and a 40 watt pentair so clearly I am biased. Nothing has melted, no spills just works.

Perhaps the margins shrank when Pentair acquired Empire Aquatics so now their products which were once touted as the best of the best are now "melting".

Funny that the pool industry does not have a correlating review flip flop...

Well, that fact that BRS no longer seems to carry them - kind of says a lot...

The issues with Pentair are largely around product and replacement parts availability. With the merger it’s become difficult to get replacements in a timely manner. My understanding is their product line is also having a hard time keeping up stock.

Ive had a pentair 80W for 2+ years and it’s worked great. Flow rates will be different based on bulb lengths and sizes resulting in different contact times.

I just had two 40 watt Pentair melt. They were replaced .

Side bump. Why do the pentair and AquaUV have such different flow rates for 40 watt algae control?
I have been told by BRS that the reason for the UVs (Pentair) melting - is because, without knowing their exact flow, people are going under the minimum flow rates... So the water/bulb is getting too hot...

And yeah, I have no idea why Aqua UVs have such high recommended flow rates...

interesting.
I have the pentair 40W & and new aquaUV 25W on a new tank.

I was wondering the same in regards to flow rate.
