Using a new BRS CO2 filter on my skimmer air inlet. ALK up normal?

Hi all I recently added a brs co2 media filter in my skimmer inlet with the expected result of raising / stabilizing PH especially when lots of people are over (party) near my tank. But while this indeed is happening, it seems my alk went up almost immediately from 8.1 to 8.5 dkh. Is that “expected”?
