I was gifted a devils hand from petco and it doesn’t seem to be doing well. Are they supposed to look shiny? Anyways it’s only been in there for a few days, does anyone know how long it usually takes one to open up? Or if this one is alive at all?

of course its alive lol, it looks great actually.

Leathers get shiny like that when trying to shed, they need enough flow to shed, or you can use a turkey baster and gently blow on it to help it out. Usually after I 'baste' it, they usually open back up the next day. Its a very normal thing for leathers.

Thank you, I feel much better reading that. Just it's been shiny for a few days, and it's in a really high flow spot that entire time but the shinyness still persists, and a turkey baster doesnt seem to blow off anything. I'll wait a few days and keep it in high flow to see if it sheds then.

It may be in too high of a flow, depending on what you consider high flow.
