Just wanted a quick question/poll around those who use the care magnet float (any size)

I feel the external float foam is pretty pointless and don’t know how I feel about the clips that hold it against the external magnet and their ability not to damage the glass, however I am a purist of sorts and feel really odd thinking to remove it, an original ReefBuilders video looks to show it without, I imagine it was introduced as a good grip to make it easier, just seems an eyesore/accident waiting to happen, would be keen to hear other opinions.

I use mine with both pieces. It stays up in the corner on the side of the tank and I don’t ever really know it’s there. It kinda just blends in with the background as it’s got quite a bit of coralline growing on the float.

I’m not sure if it’s just mine but the float on the exterior of the tank, the clips that attach it to the magnet seem to sit against the glass rather than off it, almost like the felt isn’t thick enough

The outside is more for grip than anything else. They even have decorative wood grips which look nice but I would never spend the money for one because I don't leave mine in the tank. I have 3 and use the outside grip /float on all three.

EDIT : I use them on glass tanks and don't see an issue with the clips. The scraper is sharp plastic and the clips are plastic. I'm using the metal blades on mine and recently added a ceramic blade to the small end that does a great job on the stubborn green algae. If you have an acrylic tank I can't help. I've always been scared to go with acrylic because of scratching.

Also if your really concerned you could put a soft cloth between the outside scraper and glass. Maybe something like a microfiber cloth.

I use with both foam pieces; I find it awkward to hold / grip without it. I don't leave it on / in the tank.
