I have a 60 cube with an oversized sump as I built my own cabinet. Still the sump isn't big enough for both a skimmer and recommended chaeto compartment. I could replace the sump with one slightly bigger but still somewhat smallish. I should have build the cabinet bigger o_O So to do Triton with a skimmer I will need a chaeto reactor that doesn't sit in the sump...and a pretty big one to boot. About the only thing not DYI big enough is the Pax Bellum N24 with a pretty big price tag. I could fit this Chaetomorpha reactor into my sump.

There are a few threads on "skimmerless" operation and most people seemed opposed. I thought I would bring it up again to see if those considering Triton are trying it out.

Perhaps, BRSTV Investigates can look into it.

What about an external skimmer or one that hangs on the sump?

I thought about that a HOB. Apparently the new ones are better. The question: "Is the nutrient export from an HOB that much better than nothing?" An external may be an option if I can plumb it in a pretty small space.

How about an algae scrubber instead of chaeto? Anybody tried that?

Bump. Was thinking about this today and found this thread. Anyone with any more input?

And @nhlives, how have you progressed since you started this thread?

for now I do not plan on using Triton. I just have a 60 cube which makes for a reasonable water change routine.
