To treat or not to treat… my tank is only about 5 months old, so I’m not sure if I should get ahead of this and hit the tank with Flux, or give my new additions a chance to make a dent. I’ve intentionally let the back glass get covered as my pod population loves it. It’s the rocks that are out of hand. This stuff is dug in deep on the rocks so scrubbing does nothing… I honestly don’t mind algae as my livestock love it. I just don’t want this to progress so far that I’m loosing coral. My perams are below. Recently added a tang, 3 urchins (2tuxedo and a pencil) and a few emerald crabs. I’ve been looking around for a sea hare, but nobody seems to have one. What are your thoughts on Flux? I don’t really want to kill all of the algae as I want enough to keep my critters happy. At the same time however, I don’t want this stuff engulfing my tank.

Just for background, I was battling Dino for a month or two and treated it with nitrates and UV sterilizer so my nitrate and phos numbers have always been close to or at 0. I went on vacation and came back home to this hair algae. I only feed frozen and have cut back.

Nit: 0
Phos: 0
Ph: 8.1
Salinity: 1.024
Temp: 78
Alk: 8.5-8.9
Mag: unknown
Cal: 450ish last time I had it tested. IMG_0195.jpeg

I dosed flux (Fluconazole) for bryopsis and GHA in my 11 gallon and was very happy with the results. I manually removed as much as I could, added a bit to the CUC, and dosed for about a month, maybe a bit longer. . . bryopsis is gone and GHA is back under control.

That makes me feel better! I may end up, trying a sea hare before going the dosing route, but it’s nice to hear that people had results with no additional side effects.
