if you've ever found yourself elbow-deep in your tank at 3am, this post is for you.

we've all been there: staring into our tanks, the irresistible itch to adjust, tweak, and tinker with every little thing. things are looking good, but it could be better... maybe i should move that new acro... i think i need more flow in that corner...

before you know it, you're buying something you didn't need, and now you have enough extra equip you might as well just set up another tank! *laughs in cyano*

i gotta admit, reef keeping strikes so many boxes for me for things i love and i couldn't see myself without a reef, but dang, it will be the end of me if i don't remind myself to chill and smell the flowers (or skimmate?) and enjoy this little slice of the ocean.

Sure there’s a lot of fiddling/learning in the first few months but as you get to know your system it gets easier and watching stuff thrive is food to the soul
Keep reefing!

I was more of a tinkerer in my younger days as well. I also have learned to relax and enjoy my tank without needing to put my hands in it as much.

It’s not an overnight thing , I mean certainly if your not water changing and your balancing everything out to replicate the ocean that can take a while , if your tanks small then wcs are easiest because you probably don’t need to test often or adjust this/that etc

Once done, enjoy! ( but there’s always something you think you can improve on!)

Yeah the tinkering aspect is sometime irresistible. But….Comparing and trying and experimenting helps seems to other ppl more from your good or bad experiments. So it’s good and bad.
I am a tinkerer but much more in my earlier years of reefing.
Now I tend to keep things simple. I just do large regular water changes, and dose AFR and kalk. I no longer believe in any of the snake oils that are present in this hobby anymore. I just let things be and watch them grow. Here’s my newest tank of 1yr 4mo. It’s a quick YouTube vid. Cheers
