Time to celebrate!!! What were your reefing "wins" this year?

Well, 2022 is a wrap and it’s time to celebrate so let’s take some time to celebrate your wins for this past year! Did you start a tank this year? Have you added new fish and corals? Is your tank thriving? Did you make it to any reef shows or make new reefing friends? Maybe your “win” was simply having survived another year! Tell us about your wins and let’s celebrate together!!!

Weird one here but for me it was the dismantling of my 400g Basement tank and the tear down of the fish room. It was a job and a beast! Next year for this poll I'll add the set up of the NEW peninsula tank!!!

I successfully added fish (and coral) to my tank!
Here’s the fish and coral I added (One fish unfortunately passed because of jumping the night I introduced my egal Angel). Here they are in order of who went in first this year.

I’d say this year was successful for my 4’ tank - It was also successful for my Nano however I’ll have to leave it a year to definitely say if it’s successful. I have had a few losses on the way in my 4’ tank however overall it has been successful. This tank now owns 4 of my dream fish :)

(I think) I finally managed to solve a multi-year long problem with my corals. It took some balancing between phosphate and nitrate levels, but things finally seem to be on the upswing and the tank once more looks like a somewhat flourishing reef. That alone is a win for me.

What size will the new tank be?

First time tankless in over 19 years!!! But every day I see the photos here I itch to get a new tank going! Anyway the new tank will be in the 180-200g range probably. I've really taking a liking to peninsula style tanks and being able to view them from 3 sides. They present their challenges but the reward can really pay off! Thanks for asking!

Was contemplating a break from the hobby after a hard set of crashes. Wife refused to let me consider a break and told me to order whatever tank I wanted, and I did.....

And that’s why my family don’t trust me when it comes to the hobby haha
I bet that tank is stunning!

I had a major tank crash this year.
PXL_20220507_182843927.MP.jpg

I lost all my fish, and 80-90% of my corals.

I almost shut down my build thread. I am really glad I didn't.

I have successfully restocked the tank, learned hard lessons and continue on with the tanks journey.

I have a plan to go hands off with stocking soon and begin another grow season for the next 6 months.

I voted 'other'. In February I upgraded somewhat relunctantly to LEDs (since 30" t5 bulbs are getting hard to find). LEDs were very intimidating to me because I had no idea what brand, or size to choose. I also am a female in my 6th decade thus a bit tech challenged. The thought of programming 6 channels at different intensities for different times made me weak in the knees. However, I watched lots of BRS videos on LEDs, the most helpful being the BRS LED showdown where top LEDs were featured against each other and strengths and weaknesses were pointed out.

With my modest budget I settled on ReefBreeder's Photon 24 V2+ and I was not disappointed. Programming was challenging but I got it done and my corals/macro algae immediately began to respond positively. This truly was a wonderful upgrade. No more timers for different bulbs, no more buying replacement bulbs and no more removing the fixture to work in the tank. The color is wonderful and the shimmer although a little disco ball ish is nice. Did I say I love this light!

I got back in the hobby after 3 years. Had a tank crack and force a rapid exit. I have had tanks for about 40 years (mostly freshwater). I learned about ocean live rock, and I ain't ever looking back!

All of the above plus more! The tanks and coral are part of my lifestyle and not just a hobby, so it ebbs and flows like anything else in my life.

I focused more on connecting with new reefers and setting up activities for my local group. Also participating on R2R a lot more! I also started a frag business and vending at local swaps, and a YouTube channel to share my reefing lifestyle with the world.
Like I tell every new reefer in my area, the tank and the coral are the easy part, the hard part is getting reefers together. I aim to make that happen more often.

A move. Mover said he'd never lost a fish or coral. Buy didn't prepare me for all the equipment I'd have to replace and having to have all the plumbing he had done. Was leaking 25 gallons of saltwater a day. Plus some equipment and light switches got lost. Then Hurricane Ian hit no power for a week . Thank God for battery operated air pumps. No fish lost. Then the cold snap this xmas. No heat temp went down to 72 from 80. Thank my local fish store helping with Icp testing activ8 trace elements and a new calcium reactor. Previous lfs didn't know much about calcium reactors. He chose to promote the more expensive approach.

Will miss Jakr Adam's and his podcasts. Look forward to learning more from ACI, blueprint and Reef-labs in upcoming year.

Upgraded my reef and set up a brand new Red Sea Reefer 625 XXL. Fish are in and doing great. Corals going back in next week!
