So I’m feeling very confident that another Red Goniopora purchase is soon about to happen.
It was about three weeks ago that I had purchased this little guy (photo) Ive had Gonis in the past and had good success. But about 5 weeks ago I sprung for $100 softball sized beauty and I can only conclude that it was damaged at the lfs. It could have been on the way home but I doubt it. Brown jelly disease struck and I got it out of the tank. Sad to say it perished. Then 2 weeks later I got this one pictured.
Wish me luck with #2.

Question: what are you feeding yours? And have you noticed rapid growth because of your food choices. Thx.

I’ve had pretty good luck with gonis, I actually managed to save one that was half dead from my lfs. A lot of people say the need to be fed on a weekly basis but I’ve only fed anytime my phosphates need to be raised. I think the most important thing is keeping alk and mag stable.

I dose manganese
Keep alk stable

Feed gonipower ever other week (powered food means I have to change socks and I don’t usually wanna!) powder food is really the only thing they can eat. Their mouths are tiny.

Softball size Goni sounds like wild colony and those tend to be harder to keep. Always have them make a Goni that size retract and check for damage. I would give it a 5 minute bath in iodine (light tea colored water) just incase.

How and how much Manganese do you dose?
Ok so I started with 1 ml of the manganese you can buy for the moonshiners method.
After a month or so I doubled that. When I started adding the gonis again (I had issues after I moved and took me a while to get back on track) i upped the dose to 3ml. Then in 2 months I was doubling that. Most recent ICP showed .7 ug/L . That was the 1st time it ever registered on a ICP test - ideal value is suppose to be .92ug/L.

When I ran out of the 500ml bottle from the moonshiners method I bought powdered manganese through loud wolf (MnSO4). I’ve reduced the amount I dose and I am currently ramping it back up. I’ll be sending out another ICP test in 2weeks or so. Ideally I’ll be able to find a dose needed to keep the tank with a measurable amount of manganese.
