Let me tell you about the Yellow Pig Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)! I have a liquid food dispenser that drops ROE/TiggerPods/OysterFeast/Phyto 5x per day. The fish know when it's coming because I have a wifi power strip that turns off the return pumps 2 min before dosing the food. Yellow Pig Wrasse is literally swimming vertically at the surface of the water to catch food as it's falling into the tank.

For a second I thought you somehow finagled a jordani.
After a year trying to get the last redhead flame to not kill I don’t think I want another Ronald McDonald so I’ll keep Lil Ronnie the magma instead. Haha I look in the bag and I txt Joel you gave me wrong fish lol. Super male my butt. Try to tell him supermale is only a fish seller term to charge more for old fish.

So when we get older do we get to call ourselves super males too? I also cost more.

Does any one have any input about this Wrasse, Halichoeres cosmetus
cosmetus was on my list along with chrysus and biocellatus. Google images ranged from amazing colors like the LA image above to more drab coloration. Probably like iridis, where camera doesn't capture how brilliant they look. No personal experience ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi, I have a couple wrasse questions.

1. China Wrasse (Anampses Neoguinaicus) - I've seen a couple at my LFS eating and healthy, are they similar to Leopards in that getting a healthy specimen is part of the challenge in them? If I acquired a healthy and eating one, would the chance of success be greater, or are they a fish just too difficult to successfully keep?
Also, I have no idea of what size tank they need, I've seen it ranging from 70 to 125 recommended gallons, so I don't even know whether it would fit in my tank. (3 foot 70 gallons).

2. Timor Wrasse (Halichoeres Timorensis) - Are they too aggressive for peaceful tank mates such as Pink Streaked Wrasse, Dartfish, Assessors etc once they mature? They're beautiful, and my LFS just got one in, but I've seen that they tend to turn nasty once mature.

3. I'm hoping to find a Leopard or Gold Nugget Wrasse at some point (if I can find a healthy specimen), and would having multiple sand sleeping wrasse be an issue in a 3 foot system?

4. If I can locate one, would it be possible to add another Pink Streaked Wrasse to my current one? I know that some people keep them in pairs/groups, but I also saw that wrasse don't "pair".

Thanks, sorry for all the questions.

They’re a little harder than a leopard maybe but getting an eating one is most of the struggle. Need copepods more than most wrasse. But basically the same as a leopard.
Also, I have no idea of what size tank they need, I've seen it ranging from 70 to 125 recommended gallons, so I don't even know whether it would fit in my tank. (3 foot 70 gallons).
Not sure either. Get big but grow slow.
Mines in with similar fish. It’s sometimes aggressive towards similar wrasse (other halichoeres) for a second or two but that’s it.
3. I'm hoping to find a Leopard or Gold Nugget Wrasse at some point (if I can find a healthy specimen), and would having multiple sand sleeping wrasse be an issue in a 3 foot system?
It’s not the sand but the overall size that concerns me. Wrasse like a long tank.
4. If I can locate one, would it be possible to add another Pink Streaked Wrasse to my current one? I know that some people keep them in pairs/groups, but I also saw that wrasse don't "pair".
That’s an @i cant think question
Thanks, sorry for all the questions.
That’s what we’re here for!

I agree with what @Slocke said. I’ll add that yes, A. Neoguinaicus will eventually outgrow your tank but they are slow growers so you’ve got time for that upgrade ;)

Timorensis can be an aggressive wrasse once it transitions to male - I do not recommend adding one to your tank.

Black leopards stay on the smaller side If you can find a healthy one it would be the best leopard wrasse for a 3’ tank.

You are correct, wrasses do not form pair bonds they form harems, but pink streaks are tolerant of their own species so it‘s possible to add another one. An acclimation box helps.

Edit: I’ll clarify that pink streaks are tolerant of their own species in larger tanks like yours.

Although yes wrasses in general don’t pair, the smaller species (Pseudocheilinops and Wetmorella) seem to pair up better - My two pinkies hang around eachother quite often and Infact disliked being in a trio. I still need to get photos of my pair as my male has coloured up along with the female.

As for if you can locate one, it’s not just that issue. You have the issue of you can’t tell females and males apart when they’re separated. You have to have one very small juvenile to add to your larger (and most likely) male. When I say smaller, here’s how small my three were - they’re with trochus snails.

Another issue with pinkies is they do not like even minor aggression towards them. If you have blennies and possibly even other wrasses already established I’d stick to just the one. Even a small bit of aggression from a blenny can cause them to go into stress and then unfortunately the result in most cases is they end up dead due to it.

One reason I was excited when getting my female Iridis was the hope of her not being adjusted to my timing too well… Instead she wakes up at 6am then sleeps at 8pm. And she also came out the sand within day 1. I’m praying I finally get a wrasse that hides for weeks haha. But hey, who doesn’t like baby radiants?

Can we make top 6 Halichoeres? Always wanted one but turn them down because of choats but I do like the Jewelled. Besides the yellow coris it’s the second most labeled wrong wrasse
IMG_2046.jpeg
I’ve had the chance to get several of these in the past but always left them… I like the females but the males just look bland to me.

I’ve been trying to name my fish for a while. Suggestions welcome.

Well, tonight I think I’ll be sat down and making a list of all the fish I have… Probably going to miss 1-2 of them out haha.
