If only the prices would come down a bit more... The sailfin would be rehomed in a minute.
I didn’t see that coming.thought I was only one who liked a gem lol What are your prices on them over there. Not sure what they sell for here now but guessing 5-600 bucks. I pay $250 so not bad. If I paid market prices I would have a tank full of damsels

I payed $30 for my meleagrides. Prettier and cheaper and wouldn't hurt a fly. See wrasses are superior.

I prolly can source it for 200-250 (on the small side) if I asked nicely through the local hookup. Would slide it in as a favor after I do some fish sitting for his yearly Philippines trip in Sept - October.

LFS is still charging the 'Gem Tang' tax, so I'm seeing 350-450$ depending on size. Upside since peak 'vid it beats 550$ that I was seeing. I need a bit bigger, 3.5-4" minimum so it can go toe to toe with the purple & two yellows. It would spend about a month in the cube to acclimate it first. Dont get me wrong, I love my sailfin (velifer) but hes getting big (flat like glandular fat) and has become a bit food aggro as of late. So he/she will be rehomed before the end of the year.

Unfortunately tangs need a new home sometimes. It sucks at times but also opens the door for something new.

That gem in the picture had ich and velvet. It was in holding for months and then after a few months in the display it all went wrong.
I see vision problems in gems. They seem to be carrying parasites when I see it. It kind of seems neurological too. Idk. If you get one watch it eat and make sure it can get the food and not miss the food

It’s fat and happy acted fine. See anything in the picture that would show ich and velvet.

Couldnt tell, its beautiful whatever it is. Looks like the contrast was cranked a bit to my crummy eyes.
Too much contrast?! No such thing!

*I overedited this just for this post :face-with-tears-of-joy:

i had a perfectly healthy gem…
grew him from a lil pup.

turned into a complete d-head.
literally watched him bully every fish in my tank, prevented my wrasses from doing their thing….

on top of that nonsense,
he looked me dead in the eye one day…
and proceeded to thrash my cynarinas with his scalpel!
that was it…
he’s lucky i caught and sold him
versus
throwing him off my balcony in a high rise condo!

(catching him was such a pain, fishing line and acclimation box… took like 5 days, every fish went in there before his cowardly self did!)

needless to say, i hate tangs
and don’t understand the cult mentality behind them…
