That little branch is now 21 inches and a major branch come off of the main trunk. It is bout 1/3 inches thick.
Spring also bring on a batch of flowers. I was not able to get seed last year due to the plant needs a specific pollinator. I have not read closely into this to see if I can acts as the pollinator
I always baby this plant, now it come to the point that I must prune it to keep it manageable.

This plant is in the sump of my reef tank. The area has reasonable flow, not stagnant water, but not a ton of flow. It is outside of the sump main circulation pathway. The root system is extensive. Over the Winter, I had to removes hundreds of leave from the water as they drop. Soon I have to remove sizable branches by pruning. I think I have to remove so much biomass that I think this is a legitimate method of export nutrients.

Appreciate the info. I have some thick mangroves growing in a 15 gallon. Nowhere near your size. I have always wondered how much nutrients they actually export, but that is probably dependent on size and growth rate. Awesome to know you are getting to the point of pruning both the top and bottom! Ive had mine for about 1.5 years now, and the roots are starting to take over the entire sand bed and just come up in random spots lol.

....e, cramped in my sump with does not do it justice. It is about 2 feet high from the water and 2 feet wide. I need to set up an aquarium that tied to the system so it can spread our it's branches. Picture of the flowers also attached. The pictures of the flowers were taken bout 6 months ago.

Nice job growing that Black Mangrove! I had one going in a brackish tank years ago, but it never grew that vigorously. You even got flowers from it! What kind of lighting do you have over the tree?

Next time I'll try it with more light. I have a couple new little seedlings that I need to set up somewhere.

I had this red mangrove for 4 months and it was just lay dormant. There were two leaves but the plant show no change what so ever for 3+ months. It was shaded by my black mangrove. I finally bite the bullet and trim the black mangrove above it to exposed it to direct light. Finally this last week I start to see growth of the red mangrove. New leaves start to poke through the sheet at the terminal bud. Hopefully it will continue to grow.

This little guy started with three leaves about a year and a half ago. Long term plan i guess is to let it have the entire 300gallon trough it is in for a display, or to plumb in a separate display to my main tank to showcase the aerial root structure as it matures. What do you guys think?
