Tetra Whisper 10 air filter replacement for phytoplankton culturing.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the air-intake filter for a Tetra Whisper10?
I've been having bad luck with my phytocultures, and I've done everything I can think of to keep bacterial contamination from occurring.
I think something may be in the pump that is causing the issue.
