So I bought a 60 gallon setup and it came with a sump which im guessing is a wet/dry but I think I set it up like a wet sump and I need help on if I have it setup right cause Iv never had a sump before but have had plenty of saltwater tanks. I originally had a 30 gallon with the filter in the back like a all in one and it was running for about 7 months and then I basically used most of the water, all the rocks and also added more rocks from a different well established tank , very little of the sand with new dead sand, and all of the filter media which is in the sump right now under the sock. Iv had maybe 1 coral die and just now getting a little brown algae on the sand bed and a tiny bit on the walls of the glass so I’m guessing I must be doing something right!? I do have a aquamaxx hang on back protein skimmer that’s pretty efficient.

Yep looks like it was a wet/dry origionally. Looks like you are making the best of it. Might consider raising the water level a little if your having issues with pump sucking air. Otherwise if you have an ato to keep the level stable it should work. Brown algae on the sand is just part of the new tank process.

I’m actually going to get a 20 long today to put these baffles in and make an actual sump. Will it hurt anything when I change the sump out? I’m planning on using the bio media In the sump now and just switching out the filter sock
